Shop the yards’ is an expression we use often here at Bissett Nursery. The expression implies what it says. If you make the effort to incorporate into your design plans and proposals materials that are easily and readily available, then it stands to reason that you will be able to expedite the job in a more efficient and profitable manner. As a landscape designer I can already here what you’re thinking, “ sure, that’s real creative or, that’s an easy way out”.
I am not suggesting that you should compromise your creativity. In fact, it forces just the opposite. I am suggesting, that depending on the time of year….the season and the economic posture, giving yourself more flexibility in terms of design will ultimately allow you equal creativity without sacrificing profit and efficiency. Educating the client/customer to the guidelines, restrictions and nuances of the landscape process can only help you to provide them with a more professional and successful landscape outcome. I am always dumbfounded when I hear a contractor state that the designer/architect will except no substitutions. The logistics of that statement only make sense if you (the contractor) and your customer have no deadlines to meet and are afforded the luxury of procuring your materials over an extended period of time.

The economic environment in which we now find ourselves dictates that we all must be a bit more flexible.

Bissett Nursery is going into this fall season well stocked and new material is arriving daily. Selection of materials is as good as ever.
I believe this fall 2010 season will be better than last and we are here and ready to serve you. As always, if there is anything that I can do to help you and your company please don’t hesitate to call on me.
Make it a great day,
Jim V
