Over time, sand washes out and requires to be refilled periodically to maintain proper spacing. However, “too much of a good thing” can come into play.  You should be wary of over-applying paver sealer by reapplying too often, which could create a haze. Is it necessary to Seal Pavers?

Gappsi recommends sealing concrete pavers and cleaning regularly. Although paving stones use the highest quality cement, cement is a corrosive material.  Cement wears under natural elements such as rain and snow. The sun, rain, and cold can easily wear the surface of pavers, and a good sealing job with the right sealing product, applied by a professional technician of sealing, will create a layer of protection over the paving stones making them water-repellent and weatherproof. This will protect the concrete surface from corrosion. A good sealer penetrates the paver surface and stays there for many years, even when the look of the sealer goes away the color and texture of the pavers will stay new.

Do you need to pressure wash pavers before sealing them?

Gappsi recommends pressure washing pavers before sealing the surface and the surface should be free of debris. It is very important the surface is cleaned first.  Once the sealant is on the pavers any stains or materials that get trapped under the sealer will not be able to be cleaned after it’s sealed.

 

Pressure washing pavers is just as important as sealing them. Using the wrong pressure washing tools could also hurt the pavers. A pressure washer with the wrong nozzle could mark or wear the pavers. The best-recommended tool is a high-volume, low-pressure, hot water-pressure washer. The hot water cleans the pavers and prepares the surface for the best result sealing job.

Gappsi completed a backyard renovation in Smithtown NY. We installed Nicolock Pavers around a Vinyl Pool. Gappsi reinstalled a new liner and new equipment for the swimming pool.  In addition, we designed and built new stairs across the l shape shallow area of the swimming pool. Charcoal Nicolock 12×8 bullnose was chosen for around the pool.  The patio was paved with Granite City Stone Ridge. Several raised patio areas were created near the backyard sliding doors to add dimensional depth to the backyard scape.

Common Sports Game Courts Materials

♦  Asphalt: The most affordable option for having a basketball sports game court is an asphalt pad with painted lines. The material costs are the least expensive as well as the installation due to cutting out the expense of having the court painted.

Some people have concerns about the durability of unpainted asphalt. It’s been our experience that as long as you don’t have large trees with big tree roots near the court you should be fine and will avoid the potential for big cracks. As for wear and tear, a sports court will not experience the same traffic as your driveway so its longevity will be much longer than your standard driveway.

This is the best material for a driveway basketball court. It’s softer and more forgiving on the body than on other surfaces. For best results, install when the weather is warm and the ground is dry.

The court can be asphalt, and the edging can be brick pavers, beautifying the look of the court.  

♦  Concrete: This surface can be slippery and not as soft, making it less desirable for competitive basketball use. In cold climates, the concrete can crack and heave, making it unsafe.  Concrete is a common driveway material, works for family-fun basketball, and lasts about 30 years.

Much like an asphalt pad, a concrete pad with painted lines is more affordable than one that’s painted due to cutting out the painting process.  The concrete looks nicer but the asphalt plays nicer.

♦  Hard-packed Gravel w/ Mateflex– Many towns, especially in the Northeast, have strict zoning laws that regulate the amount of non-permeable coverage your property can have. If your town will not allow you to have a non-permeable court, then a hard-packed gravel court with Sports Courts tiles may be your best and only option.

♦  Brick Pavers: Flat pavers can make for a smooth playing surface. They come in many colors and can be replaced if stained or broken. In addition, you can build basketball court lines, such as the free-throw line, right into the design by using different-colored pavers.  What we like about it the most is it compliments your property more than any other option. Not that the other options don’t. It’s just that a brick paver basketball sports courts really looks nice, especially if you already have a paver patio.

What you get with this is a brick paver patio with the basketball court lines cut out and replaced with different colored bricks. The aesthetics of this are awesome. The athletics of it aren’t bad either.

◊  Maintenance: Basketball play should not result in any additional maintenance for the driveway, and the hoop structure should require little maintenance. If you see rust, remove it right away and check the warranty that came with your system. A quality system should last a lifetime.

◊  Permit: A permit is not typically required, but you should always check the rules in your area, as well as your homeowner’s association if you belong to one. People may think they can’t have a hoop because of their homeowner’s association.  But in many cases, they are allowed, or you can file for an exception. You almost always get one.

◊  Extras: Go beyond the hoop and driveway by adding some helpful extras. These are the most popular:

  • Stenciling kit: The kit includes a pattern and paint to add a 3-point line, free-throw line, lane, baseline, and more.
  • Pole pad: This cushion around the pole eases any collisions while playing and can be customized with vinyl lettering.
  • Lights: LED lamps to illuminate your driveway and allow you to play basketball at night.
  • Ball Containment: A net or fence stops the ball from going into the bushes, down a hill, over a fence, or into the neighbor’s yard.

Gappsi installed a basketball sports game court in Elwood located in Suffolk County NY. This sports court was paved with Nicolock Stone Ridge Smooth in 3 color combinations. We used Autumn Blend for the field, Granite City Holland Stones for the 3-point line, as well as for striping. For the key, we used a Travertine color.

The non-skid, flat surface is optimal for basketball and is the choice of many players.  Permeable pavers bring the efforts of staying “green” all the way out to the curb! Being environmentally conscious doesn’t always mean sacrificing beauty! This inspiring and colorful blend brings the quality and standards of Gappsi.

We installed an out-of-bounce netting behind the basketball hoop too. The basketball hoop is adjustable regulation size with a LED light installed on the top. If you want to add a tennis court to your property, make sure you have enough room for the tennis court construction. We have built tennis courts in locations where the available space was slightly smaller than the normal regulation-size tennis court. A regulation doubles-size tennis court takes a minimum of 60′ by 120′. The property’s offset requirements need to be considered when designing and choosing the location of the sports game court.  The property lines and town requirements are important to note because the distance from your neighbor’s property line is governed by zoning laws and regulations adopted by homeowners associations or town / village laws.

Orientation is ideal in a north to south direction to account for the sunrise in the morning and set in the late afternoon
Outdoor courts need a 1% slope to permit proper court drainage. It is imperative to consider the direction and ease in which water flows over, under, and around your court. Depending on the ease of flow, your court may require additional drain installation to facilitate the drainage process

Tennis Court and Basketball Sports Game Court Combo In Smithtown NY

Gappsi Design Team built a brand new sports game court; a combination of basketball and tennis in Smithtown NY. Nicolock paving stones size 6×9 in the color named Granite City bordered the Tennis & Basketball Sports Game Court.  We used 2 inches of asphalt over an oversized recycled concrete base.  In order to make this court able to play two different sports.  Gappsi first painted the white lines on the court for tennis and then we painted the yellow lines for basketball.

We built a retaining wall and faced it with Eldorado cultured stones. The court was primed with black asphalt paint on three sides of the court, and then Gappsi installed an out-of-bounce netting that is used for both tennis and basketball court games.

Gappsi designed and built a freeform vinyl pool with sundeck using concrete walls. This backyard was designed and installed for a residence in Holbrook NY.  A sheer descent waterfall was created using a masonry structure and two columns on each end along with two Pentair water balls. The pool is 45 inches to 60 inches in the deep end.

The pool features a sundeck with an umbrella and two lounge chairs. If you are building a new pool at home, we highly recommend a sun deck! A sun deck can be designed as an oversized step or two, or you can have it as an independent addition to the side of the pool.
