UNUSUAL GUNITE vs. FIBERGLASS SWIMMING POOLS LONG ISLAND
Gappsi Pools was hired to salvage a backyard. This particular
customer had a very old pool built very differently than anything we had
seen before. They had received advice from other companies that they needed
a whole new pool. And we also had thought that would be best but because it
would be impossible to get a truck into this yard we had no choice but to
work with the existing pool.
First we had to address the pool which was a concrete bottom with
fiberglass walls. The pool was leaking where the two materials came
together. We decided to put a liner in the pool but this was made difficult
because there was no consistent shape to the inside. Very difficult to
measure for a liner. We needed to reshape and fiberglass the existing stair.
Skimmers needed to be moved and added. Returns needed to be changed and also
moved and the main drain was removed. We needed to also install a track to
hang the liner on. We also ran new plumbing and updated the filter to
include a salt system. Once all the prep was done, installing the liner is
easy. Making it wrinkle free can be a challenge with a job like this, but in
this case the measurements were so good that it fit very well just requiring
some weight in the corners until the water was up.
