For this project, we carefully selected a combination of materials to achieve a timeless, European-inspired look. The area by the house features a multi-size paver layout, adding depth and texture. Moving up the hill, we used tumbled G032 limestone pavers from the Gappsi stone collection. These pavers were chosen for their ability to resemble Belgian block, providing a classic yet rustic aesthetic without the use of cement joints in between.

The choice of tumbled G032 limestone pavers was crucial for this driveway, as they offer a perfect balance of durability and charm. The stones’ slightly worn, antique look gives the impression of an old-world cobblestone path, enhancing the property’s curb appeal while ensuring a strong and stable vehicle surface.

Driveway Drainage System and Functionality

Aesthetics are crucial, but functionality is just as necessary. Given the sloped nature of the driveway, we installed a carefully planned drainage system to manage water runoff effectively. Drains were strategically placed along the driveway to collect and redirect water, preventing erosion and ensuring the longevity of the installation. This protects the driveway and safeguards the surrounding landscape and foundation of the home.

Enhancing the Entrance with a Double Border and Gate Columns

To tie the entire design together, we introduced a double border that mirrors the pavers used near the house. This detail creates a seamless transition and adds a refined touch to the driveway’s overall look. The borders help define the space while emphasizing the natural stone’s unique pattern and color variations.

Further elevating the entrance, we constructed two stone columns that frame the driveway gate. View our latest traditional pavilion with Passion Spa, built on the unused sloped backyard of this home in Commack, New York.

Unused sloped backyard areas can be transformed into usable spaces by incorporating terraced gardens, retaining walls, rock gardens, or even dedicated planting zones that utilize the slope for varied plant life. This will manage potential erosion issues and create distinct levels within the yard, turning a challenging slope into a visually appealing and functional outdoor space.

This recent project, designed and built by Gappsi in Commack, N.Y., involved using the unused sloped backyard area and making it very useful.

  • Slope Severity:  The degree of slope will determine the type of structures needed, with steeper slopes requiring more substantial retaining walls.
  • Drainage: Ensure proper drainage to prevent water accumulation and erosion, especially in areas with heavy rainfall.
  • Sunlight Exposure: Consider how the slope affects sunlight exposure when choosing plants for different areas.

We built a multi-level retaining wall using the Nicolock Granite City Firma wall. The first level creates a flat area for the 18×36 traditional pavilion with the Roman pattern G045 natural blue-gray limestone patio floor from the Gappsi Natural Stone Collection.

Custom Traditional Pavilion with Passion Spa Designed and Built By Gappsi

The 18 x 36 pavilion was built with a bare wood ceiling stained mahogany.  An audio system and electrical heating system were also installed so that people could enjoy year-round entertainment.  Behind the TV wall, we created an area with a door in the back for additional storage.  The wall was veneered with silver travertine tumbled, and the TV was hung on the wall.

Steps on both sides of the patio access the pavilion area, also used as a ping-pong area. This is the latest masonry-designed sports court and pavilion incorporated into an entire abandoned area. It became the most helpful part of the backyard. It is the newest project built by Gappsi in Commack, NY.

Greenwood Fence in Aspen Brown

In our recent home remodel project we installed the Aspen Brown Greenwood Fence with black aluminum posts.  On one side of the house, we installed a 10ft double gate.  A 10-foot gate can be a good choice for driveways, fields, pastures, or bush lanes because it can fit most vehicles, including cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs. It can also allow access to large equipment, such as riding mowers.  On the other side of the home, we installed a single 4ft gate.

Gappsi completely remodeled the house with a modern country-style look. We installed all the new English strips and field stones for the bottom half of the facade of the home. We also installed Cumaru Wood known as Brazilian Teak with blue vinyl siding. Cumaru wood is a dense, tough wood with a wavy, coarse texture and irregular grain. Cumaru is known for its durability, distinctive color, and resistance to rot, decay, and insects. It’s also weather-resistant and can withstand direct water exposure without treatment.  Cumaru can range from golden tan to reddish brown with dark grain accents.

We installed G045 Blue Limestone with G045 two-inch coping for the step treads selected from the Gappsi Natural Stone Collection.  Gappsi continued the limestone in the walkway and porch area of the home.  Limestone is a hard material that fairs well under exposure to the elements, making it an excellent candidate for outdoor patios, steps, and walkways. It is easy to cut and convenient to work with, minimizing costly complications during installation and contributing toward a flawless finished product.  Blue Limestone is used in a wide range of exterior and interior building applications from building facades to low-level garden walls or boundary walls.

In our recent application using sandblasted marble pavers with synthetic turf, Gappsi used a recycled concrete base between the marble paver tiles, and synthetic turf nailed to the base.  We used green infill on the synthetic turf.  Green silica sand infill elevates your synthetic turf performance with premium material for enhanced durability. 

Turf infill is those tiny bits of material sprinkling between the artificial grass blades. For example, if the edges are similar to blades of grass, then infill is the dirt for the turf.  Adding silica sand infill helps your faux grass blades stand up and keep their real look in high-traffic areas. The silica sand infill also gives you the feel of walking on real grass by emulating the impact absorption qualities of soil. It helps weigh down the imitation turf and helps keep the artificial grass from getting wrinkles or ripples caused by movement. However, just because the pool itself is less expensive doesn’t mean you sacrifice the quality, aesthetics, and functionality of the pool.  A vinyl liner pool can be customized like a gunite or concrete pool and offers homeowners versatility in design options.

Why Upgrade Pool Plumbing System?

We installed new plumbing, new skimmers, new jets, and a new liner. In addition, the equipment was installed on the side, away from the living space.

There are many reasons to upgrade your pool plumbing system, including:

  • Water quality – Modern filters and pumps can improve water clarity and make it safer and healthier for swimming. They can also reduce the amount of chemicals needed to treat the water. We raised the spa and built a platform to the second-level patio connected by the stairs.  The top patio was also paved with Fiorito Travertine in a French pattern and the walls were also finished with 2-inch veneers and coping was used to match all other wall caps in the backyard.

Fountain Focal Point
