Gunite Pool & Backyard Design-Southampton NY

Gunite Pool & Backyard Design-Southampton NYThis project was designed by Giuseppe Abbrancati and installed by Gappsi for a private residence in Southampton, NY. The oversized lazy L-shaped gunite swimming pool is built in line with the house’s diagonal angles, complementing the modern look of the multi-level home. Each side of the swimming pool makes for perfect view from all the windows in the house.
Gunite swimming pools, besides being very beautiful, are also very functional and can include many different features. This Gunite Pool & Backyard Design includes a large sundeck with 12 inches of water for chairs and benches in the shallow area. An elevated spa was also added in the center of the sundeck with a spill over on all four sides. LED lights were also added throughout the pool, and the pool surface consists of Diamond Brite Tahoe Blue quartz finish. The edge of the pool was finished with blue stone coping and waterline porcelain tiles, and the pool was fitted with a saltwater chlorine generator system and a propane gas heater.
The surrounding of the pool was completed with a patio to compliment the swimming pool layout, and was built with limestone natural pavers. Laminar deck jet water features were placed around the pool creating a park-like effect in the day, and at night, a stream of light travels through the water spilling in the swimming pool. The deep end of the gunite swimming pool is regulation for diving with an 8-foot gray colored diving board and a flight deck base. The rest of the backyard was completed with sod and tree installation. With the elimination of the walls and installation of a new larger window, we allowed more light to come into the house. All new custom-wood kitchen cabinets in two tones of beige for the hood and the island and dark cherry for all other cabinets were installed. Tumbled travertine tiles were installed for the back-splash, and matte-finish seashell limestone counters were installed for both cabinets and the center island. A beam molding, protruding down from the ceilings defining the slopes and angles, was constructed and stained to match the kitchen cabinets and refinished wood floors. We combined the pool and spa into one seamless system, updated all the essential components from plumbing to lighting, and replaced the old patio with elegant limestone pavers. Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you combine the pool and spa instead of keeping them separate? Combining the pool and spa creates a beautiful, unified look, especially with the water cascading from the spa into the pool. It’s also more efficient. By having them share the same pump, filter, and heater, you simplify maintenance and can reduce operational costs. It makes the whole system work together seamlessly for a better experience.

What are the benefits of using limestone pavers for the patio? Limestone pavers offer a major upgrade from older materials like clay brick. They provide a more modern and elegant appearance that can completely change the feel of a backyard. Beyond looks, limestone is incredibly durable and tends to stay cooler underfoot compared to many other materials, which is a huge plus on hot summer days. It creates a more comfortable and luxurious patio surface.

Is it always necessary to replace the plumbing during a pool remodel? While it’s not a requirement for every project, we often recommend replacing old plumbing during a significant remodel. Over time, pipes can degrade and become less efficient. Installing new PVC plumbing, as we did here, ensures the entire system is reliable for years to come. It’s a proactive step that helps prevent leaks and other costly issues down the road.

How long does a complete pool and patio renovation usually take? The timeline for a pool remodel can vary quite a bit depending on the scope of the work. A project like this one, which involved structural changes, new plumbing, and a full patio replacement, requires careful planning. Factors like weather and material availability also play a role. The best approach is to schedule a consultation so we can give you a more precise timeline based on your specific project.

My pool is old, but I’m not sure if it needs a full remodel. What are some signs to look for? If you’re wondering whether it’s time for an update, there are a few key things to look for. Visible signs include cracks in the surface, worn or missing tiles, and a dated overall appearance. You might also notice that your equipment is running inefficiently or that you’re constantly dealing with leaks. If your pool area no longer fits your lifestyle or requires frequent repairs, it’s probably a good time to consider a remodel.

Key Takeaways

  • Combine your pool and spa for a seamless design: Integrating a separate spa into your pool’s system not only creates a beautiful waterfall effect but also simplifies maintenance by using a single set of equipment for both.
  • A patio upgrade can redefine your entire space: Swapping out dated materials, like old clay bricks, for a more modern and elegant option like limestone pavers is a powerful way to completely transform the look and feel of your backyard.
  • Focus on foundational updates for a lasting renovation: A successful remodel goes deeper than just appearances; updating essential components like plumbing, lighting, and interior finishes ensures your pool is as functional and durable as it is beautiful.

Epoxy Floors Design and Installation Long Island NYEpoxy Floors

Epoxy floors have become very popular in the past decade. The versatility of the material is unmatched by any other product. There is an unbelievable variety in color, and the finishes vary from rustic-working-garage type flooring finishes, to elegant marbleized hotel lobbies or residential homes. Gappsi provides epoxy floors solutions to all residents on Long Island for both Nassau and Suffolk Counties in NY.  Get  your epoxy products installed by a reputable company.

Installation Process

In this basement we removed asbestos tiles that were glued down with liquid asphalt. The concrete floor was then grinded down to remove the tar and prepare the surface for the installation of the vapor barrier coating. Right after the first application of epoxy yellow vinyl, flakes were thrown widely in the wet epoxy and were left to stick and dry for the next 24 hours. The next step was to vacuum the loose vinyl flakes off the floor and lightly scrape the floor to flatten the surface. The final step was to apply a clear coat of the epoxy over the vinyl flakes. This gives the floor a smooth finish and covering the flakes prevents them from getting ripped off the floor. In this basement we did not apply any hardener coat over the epoxy because the floor is not used for vehicular traffic. In a garage floor or any vehicular trafficked area, a layer of urethane would need to be applied to harden the surface of the epoxy finish. This last process prolongs the wearing of the floor and also protects it from any UV light coming through the window and doors. Gappsi provides Epoxy floors solutions to all residents on Long Island for both Nassau and Suffolk County NY.
