Bocce Ball Sports Game Court Construction1The Game –  Bocce Ball

Bocce is a slow-tempo game, best enjoyed with the sun low and a cocktail in hand. The rules are simple enough: A small ball, called the pallino, gets tossed down the court and players must try to get as close as possible with their own balls, sometimes strategically knocking opponents out of the way.

The standard size of a bocce ball court is 90 feet by 13 feet but we can customize it to whatever you want. A Bocce Ball Court is a great and fun addition to any family gathering or small get-together!

Bocce Ball is swiftly gaining popularity, and for good reason: The Italian lawn game is fun yet challenging and can be played at practically any age. As more people continue to play, homeowners have started investing in their own backyard bocce ball sports game courts.

What to Know Before You Start

Before you dive in, you need to determine: court size, location, and type. Official bocce ball courts are 86.92 feet long and 13.12 feet wide, according to the United States Bocce Federation. But unofficial courts can be smaller. Scale the size down based on what you think will work best with your yard space.

For the location, it’s best to choose a spot that gets good drainage. You’ll also want to choose an area that won’t interrupt the rest of your outdoor space. Consider an area you don’t currently use often or one you want to transform.

Next, determine what type of court you want based on your maintenance preferences and where you live. Most bocce courts have a wooden border, a rocky drainage layer, and a playing surface.

Bocce Ball Court Material – Nassau County NY

Bocce-Ball-Court-Material---Nassau-County-NY1A new trend in backyards is to include the fun and relaxing game of Bocce Ball, let’s talk about Bocce Ball Court Material and how you can have one in your home. It’s a great use of empty space that provides hours of entertainment as well as an attractive aesthetic. Properly constructed Bocce Ball Courts consist of an oyster shell bed for proper texture & drainage.

Bocce Ball Court Materials For The Surface

Choose the best surface materials: A variety of materials are used to create playing surfaces, including grass, artificial turf, and clay. Professionals recommend using sand, crushed stone, or oyster blend. These materials allow the balls to roll fast and track straight.

Bocce ball is one of the oldest Italian lawn games and is now played widely throughout the world by people of all ages and skill levels. This simple game has grown in popularity over the years in the country, and many people now consider adding a bocce ball court to their bacBocce-Ball-Court-Material---Nassau-County-NY2kyard and having fun with friends and family to make the most of the warm, sunny weather. Traditionally, bocce ball is played on even ground covered with sand or grass and wooden border siding. Homeowners mostly prefer artificial turf in their backyard bocce ball court due to its durability, longer lifespan, and minimal maintenance needs.

Bocce Ball Court Considerations

A bocce ball court is easy to set up, as long as the backyard has a flat area, regardless of its size. However, homeowners need to consider a few things before installing a bocce ball court to ensure it adds beauty to the yard and the players enjoy the game to the fullest.

  • Size – A long, narrow court is ideal for a bocce game. Regulation bocce courts are 91 feet by 13 feet, and building a court close to these dimensions provides an authentic playing experience. (minimum of 70 feet by 10 feet)
  • Placement – Their long and narrow shape makes bocce ball courts suitable as a side-yard installation for occasional playing.
  • Design features – Plan shaded seating areas, fountains, pergolas, flower beds, shrubs, and other design features to beautify the yard.
  • Material – The top surface options include gravel, sand, crushed stone, ground oyster shells, and synthetic turf.
  • Drainage and Grading – It is essential to keep the bocce ball court as dry as possible.  One solution is to install French drains below the ground to prevent rainwater pooling. Grading is critical for site preparation.
  • Boundary – Choose a concrete or wooden border about six inches high nicely anchored to the ground around the court keeps the balls within the court boundary.

It is advisable to hire a professional sports game courts design and construction company for bocce ball court installation as the process is time-consuming. If anything goes wrong, the process can turn into a big hassle. It is essential to pay attention to small details for quality and long-lasting installation. Professional installation using quality materials ensures that you enjoy the game for years to come.

East Setauket Manors HOA –  Bocce Ball & Shuffleboard Sports Game Courts

We installed two bocce courts and two shuffleboards in East Setauket NY at East Setauket Manors HOA apartment complex. Gappsi built and installed two bocce courts side by side.  Each Bocce Ball Sports Game Court was constructed using bocce grass and pressure treated lumbers for the walls along with a recycled concrete base. At the beginning of the courts and in between the courts we installed synthetic turf which blends in with the real grass; it is almost hard to tell them apart.

Gappsi uses very realistic synthetic turf with beautiful realistic colors and pile height. It’s also very dense. It’s 90 ounces per sqft of synthetic grass. Which also used to divide the two courts and in between the shuffleboards and the bocce courts. The shuffle courts were built with poured concrete slabs. We finished them very smoothly and swept them with white. We kept the color of the natural concrete color. The project came out very nicely. The clients are very happy and are making very good use of both shuffleboards and bocce courts. As I said it’s almost hard to tell the difference between synthetic turf and real grass they look very very similar.

Constructing Bocce Courts in Nassau & Suffolk County

Bocce-Ball-Sports-Courts-On-Long-Island-You-TubeBocce ball is a yard or lawn game played on bocce courts in the U.S. and worldwide. Perhaps the best part about this sport is that people of all ages and skillset can play it in their backyard. Gappsi has professional bocce courts designers who can construct custom bocce courts on your property in no time. Before we delve deeper into bocce court construction by our experienced contractors, let’s learn a bit about this ancient sport!

What Is Bocce?

Bocce is a sport one plays with eight weighted balls aimed at pallino or boccino, a tinier target ball. The goal of this sport is to score points by way of inching your ball closer to the pallino than your opponent’s ball. Bocce balls are larger and heavier than the balls used in croquet. That said, the significant rules of bocce have evolved over the years.

One of the best reasons to play bocce is that it’s a low-impact game. Anyone can play it, and it’s even wheelchair-accessible. Moreover, you can play it on various surfaces, and it’s pretty easy to learn. Today, bocce ball foundations and leagues track the game worldwide. It’s also one of the most widely enjoyed games in the world, most popular in Italy among retired Sicilians. There’s a bocce federation in the U.S. as well!

Bocce Ball History

Bocce ball is incredibly popular in Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia. It was first discovered through ancient Egyptian artwork from 5200 B.C., depicting boys playing an earlier version of the sport.

Bocce spread and reached Greece in about 600 B.C. Then, Italians picked it up. Today, people from all geographies enjoy playing bocce ball. The sport has also found traction in the U.S., especially among Italian migrants. Moreover, bocce ball has become a popular feature in Special Olympics.

Where Can You Play Bocce?

Bocce ball is played on various surfaces, including gravel, sand, grass, clay, and hard-packed dirt. You can employ our bocce courts designers’ services to create a bocce court on your grass lawn. The only requirement for a bocce court is that the surface should be level. However, if you want a professional-level court, our bocce court installer can create a regulation bocce court. We can use a level surface of grass, clay, sand, or your preferred material.

A campo or bocce court can be 75 feet long and 8 feet wide. It must be enclosed with boarded sides and ends, which are about 12 inches and 18 inches high. It ensures all the weighted balls remain in the court and can rebound from the side walls.

Bocce-Ball-Sports-Courts-On-Long-IslandA Regulation Bocce Court

You can hire Gappsi to build a regulation bocce ball court in Nassau & Suffolk County. Our bocce turf is designed to offer a top-tier, professional bocce experience. Additionally, it does not require any maintenance. We also provide our clients with customized engraved bocce balls.

Moreover, our regulation bocce courts feature two putting green holes on either end. We can design a regulation court or a custom-sized one depending on your preference. For instance, our bocce courts designers have experience installing regular courts that are 10 feet wide and 60 feet long. We can customize the size of the court based on your yard size.

Bocce Courts Designers Install Safe & Professional Turfs

Gappsi has years of experience as a supplier for sports courts in Long Island, NY. When preparing our bocce courts, we ensure the surface reduces the risk of fall injuries. Our synthetic turns offer comfortable, high-performance, and safe artificial grass for bocce. We also use a rubberized underlay to lessen the impact of falls. If you want realistic synthetic turf on your court, Gappsi has the finest, highest-grade turf for its sports courts.

When building a bocce court, you must be mindful of three things – material, moisture, and grade. Gappsi uses synthetic turf, arguably the best material for bocce courts. Other materials used for these courts include crushed oyster shells, short grass, sand, and decomposed granite.

We design our courts to minimize bounce for easy play. Moreover, moisture can ruin the court surface. We use an appropriate drainage system to ensure the court remains as dry as possible. Lastly, our bocce courts designers install flat court surfaces for all projects. This way, the weighted balls or boccino don’t end up in the same corner and stay in place. We also add a high border to keep the balls within the court.

Engraved-Custom-Bocce-Balls-Gappsi-long-island-scaled-1Why Gappsi Uses Synthetic Grass for Its Bocce Courts

Are you wondering why our contractors use synthetic grass for bocce court surfaces? The truth is that synthetic grass turf cuts down on the maintenance and upkeep of the court. We construct our premium bocce courts with a recycled concrete base, 6×6 pressure-treated railroad ties, and top-quality synthetic turf.

Other court constructions replace the turf with 2 inches of bluestone dust, which requires regular maintenance. The bluestone rocks trap leaves, petals, dust, etc. It also requires annual respreading. However, our synthetic turn requires the bare minimum maintenance.

Even though this bocce court construction costs more than a typical court in Long Island, NY, it proves to be cost-effective. When debris like leaves falls on the court, you can clean it with a blower. Since the court surface does not require regular maintenance, it will not cost you a lot to maintain in the long run. Furthermore, since we install the court on a concrete pad, the synthetic turf is playable throughout the seasons. It never requires raking or rolling.

That said, if you want our bocce courts designers to use bluestone dust, clay, or crushed marble dust, we can use them to construct your court. We design all our bocce courts in Nassau & Suffolk County to satisfy our client’s needs.
