The only con to an Automated Pool Safety Auto-Covers is that it can only be installed on a rectangular pool. If you are thinking of installing a freeform pool, trying to adopt an auto safety cover might not be possible or worth it due to the very high cost of the installation. But many times, new pool owners that are in the market for a new swimming pool and plan on installing a freeform pool, only do that because they like the look of a freeform pool. They don’t realize that a freeform swimming pool will cost more than a rectangular one and offers no benefit over a rectangular pool. Starting with the cost of a mesh winter cover, it’s always 50% more then if the mesh cover was installed on a rectangular pool. The pool stone coping is also 50% more than if the pool is rectangular and the patio is also more due to the access labor and waist of material to cut the stones around the swimming pool. A freeform pool will also take up much more space in a backyard to be able to offer the floor space as a rectangular one.

The benefits of owning a swimming pool equipped with an Automated Pool Safety Auto-Covers are many. Homeowners in the market looking to purchase a swimming pool sometimes are not educated by their pool contractor and most often focus on items that are less important for the large investment. A safety auto-cover is one item but the benefits that it offers by far surpass the cost of buying one, you just need to educate yourself on them. Most of the time consumers don’t, mainly because they don’t find the right contractor that takes the time to educate the consumer on the benefits a safe electric auto-cover offers.

At Gappsi, as experienced pool builders and residential outdoor living designers and builders, we have incorporated and built many backyards with swimming pools equipped with safety auto-covers. We have calculated that operating and owning a swimming pool without an auto-cover could cost more than paying principal and financing charges if you have to get financing to install a safety auto-cover on your new swimming pool.

Many Homeowners ask how problematic Automated Pool Safety Auto-Covers are and what their maintenance is.

Installed properly, a pool auto-cover will have very few issues. With the experience of having installed many covers for our clients on Long Island NY for the past 20 years, we still promote auto-covers to our new clients because we know from our previous customers that they have always thanked us for educating and talking them into installing a safety auto-cover on their new pool. A safety auto-cover is a very simple mechanism, an electric motor, a solar rubberized fiber mesh reinforced cover, stain steel pulleys and nylon ropes. The auto-cover might need services from time to time if you see that the leading aluminum bar in front of the cover doesn’t close tight or doesn’t stay parallel with the pool stone coping that it closes against. But by experience with our cover installations, we have had situations where the cover was 12 years old and was never serviced and still going as smother as a Swiss watch. There are 3 principles we tell our customers to follow:

  1. Never open the auto cover with rain water on it! The auto cover comes equipped with a pump attached to a garden hose, all you have to do place the pump on the auto cover next to the pool coping and the weight of the pump creates a low spot. All the rainwater will go towards it and the pump will activate by itself when it senses water and shuts off when it doesn’t.
  2. Always make sure that you don’t produce excess chlorine in the swimming pool. Most, if not all swimming pools today are equipped with a saltwater chlorine generator. It is very important that you set the generator to produce just enough chlorine and not more than what’s necessary. For example, on a 20×40 pool, the salt chlorine generator will work on approx. at 70% capacity. In the same 20×40 pool equipped with a safety auto cover, the salt chlorine generator must be set between 7 to 12% capacity of chlorine making. This is because if you make too much chlorine, it will be trapped under the cover and eventually make the cover rubber tarp become brittle and dry, and that will cause the tarp to eventually rip. But this is also a benefit by minimizing the amount of chlorine making when you own a safety auto-cover. Your salt chlorine generator cell will last you a long time before you need to replace it. It will work fewer hours and also you will swim in much healthier water that contains the least amount of chlorine and other chemicals.
  3. The third rule is that you have to remember that any one in the household that uses the pool has to know and follow these 2 very simple principles, and you will love the auto-cover and enjoy the pool more than you have to work maintaining it.

Below are the benefits of owning a swimming pool equipped with an auto-cover

  • An Automated Pool Safety Auto-Covers is the best option you can add to your swimming pool, it’s a solar cover that minimizes the cost of fuel electric, oil, or gas that you will need to heat your swimming pool. It keeps the temperature of the water 10 to 15 degrees hotter. If you have a heater in the pool the auto-cover will limit the amount of time the heater would run to heat up the swimming pool water. This could save you up to 75% of the cost of the fuel bill.
  • A safety auto-cover will extend your season. You will be able to open the pool as soon as the freezing season is over, and run the pool just to keep water sanitized and as soon the weathers allows you will be ready to use it, or if you have some warm days and you have a gas or oil heater, you can spot heat the swimming pool just for that day. You will also be a better customer to the company that opens and closes your pool because they can do it off season not in the peak of the season when everyone wants their pool opened
  • Automated Pool Safety Auto-Covers can be used as a winter cover in place of the mesh. This will eliminate installing anchors in your patio to tie the mesh cover straps, not only the cover and straps don’t look clean during the time that the pool is closed, but during snow falls the snow accumulating on the mesh cover would apply wait and thus pulling on the straps and put lifting leverage on the patio pavers resulting in unevenness of the patio and also discoloration of the pavers that are covered under the cover the overlaps the pool patio.
  • The auto-cover prevents rain water from entering the pool and overflowing the pool and changing the chemistry of the pool water and unbalancing the chemicals. Every time it rains and especially in the summertime during hot days, not only the rainwater goes into the pool, but also all the dust that is in the dry air. Every time that it rains you would have to clean the pool or have a robot cleaner in the pool at all times, and you will also have to balance chemicals and pump excess water from the pool.
  • Auto-cover prevents unattended kids or pets from falling in open water. When you buy an auto-cover you are buying a safety feature that will protect your loved ones from danger. Auto covers are not made to play and jump on but sometimes kids do under the supervision of adults. Safety auto covers eliminate the cost of installing safety fences around swimming pools and also the use of the alarm system mostly requested by town inspectors to obtain final CEO’s.
  • Safety pool auto-cover extends the life of equipment, when you have a safety auto-cover the benefits are more than you could ever imagine. Your equipment starting with the pump will work to minimum just enough to circulate the water in the pool to make chemicals like the chlorine from the salt water, also the filter doesn’t need to be backwashed as often and in many situations you don’t have to backwash it at all, because at the end of the season the filter gets taken apart and and that is the time that you will clean the filter and put it back in the following season. The Salt cell also will last longer than usual because it only works a few hours during a season when your pool has an auto-cover.
  • An Automated Pool Safety Auto-Covers saves on chemicals and extends the life of the liner by protecting the pool water from the sun rays. Very little chlorine is needed to maintain the pool water free of bacteria and also prevents chlorine from evaporating in the air. A safety auto cover will protect your liners from fading. When you winterize a vinyl pool with a mesh cover, you will have to lower the water in the pool to allow the new water that rains from September to May of the following season. If you don’t do that, the pool will overfill and all leaves that fall on mesh cover will get stuck and deteriorate. When you lower the water in a vinyl, pool the part of the liner that becomes exposed out of the water will start to dry and will shrink in a matter of weeks. This over time will cause the liner from pulling off the track resulting in eyesore but also eventually damage and shorten the life of the liner.
  • A safety swimming pool auto-cover has the highest resale value of all the home improvements that you will do at your house over the years. One day you might sell your house for many good reasons, that day the new home buyer will be the most important person in your life, because you will try to get the most dollars for the house. Having an auto-cover on the swimming pool will be very easy to sell to the next homeowner. You will have a broader audience of potential buyers that will appreciate the auto cover benefits and safety. Also having a rectangular pool will help because many people are more accepting of a rectangular pool then they are of a free formed one.
  • Installing a safety auto-cover will help you get the highest savings on backyard construction, starting with the fact that you would not need a mash winter cover. That is a savings of 20% of the total cost of the auto-cover. You will not need to install a fence to protect your loved ones from the open swimming pool, in most cases when installing a swimming pool in your yard, if you don’t plan to install a safety auto-cover, you will put the pool further away from the house for the following reasons:
  1. Just in case you might want to enclose the pool area or you might want to install the fence in the future
  2. You are going to use the pool for only 3 months if you don’t have an auto-cover, so you might not like to have to close to the house because the mesh cover straps might be in your way when you walk next to the pool. Or just because they are not appealing to the eye
  3. When you install a safety fence around your swimming pool there is a great chance your patio cost will increase because it’s separate from your house patio and you are creating a separate living area and for sure will spend more money on the patio area just for the simple reason that there are separate living areas in your backyard. When you have a safety auto-cover installed on your pool your house patio and pool patio are together and the overall sq ft will be less, and less cost to you to accomplish the same thing
  • When you install an Automated Pool Safety Auto-Covers on your swimming pool, you have freedom of design for your back yard layout. You can pretty much put the pool any way you like, you will have no obstruction of a fence, you don’t have to worry about if your or your neighbors trees canopy over the pool. You don’t have to consider the sunny area in your backyard. You can pretty much build the pool area anywhere in the yard without jeopardizing the rest of the yard grass or play area.
  • Savings on maintenance and cost of opening and closing the pool for the seasons, the difference of winterizing a pool with an auto cover or without could range between $500 to $1000 dollars more for opening and closing the pool. In the spring time when your pool service company opens the pool that has a mesh cover, they most likely will have to make a few trips back to get the water free of bacteria that has created during the time that the pool was closed, caused by the sunrays that go through the mesh cover and by the rainwater that has entered to pool through the mesh cover. This results in your pool water turning green and that will translate in cost of man-hours coming back to shock, vacuum, and balance water chemistry a few times in the pool opening season. Also, several men are required to take off the mesh cover from the pool at the opening and also at closing. With a solid safety auto-cover your pool water in springtime if it’s not crystal clear it’s going to be very close to it, requiring fewer chemicals, less shock, and less chlorine from the beginning to the end of the all pool season and closed season.

Pool And Patio Contractor | East Northport NY

Pool And Patio Contractor | East Northport NYPool And Patio Contractor  in East Northport NY,  project designed by Giuseppe Abbrancati and built by the Gappsi Group professionals.

Starting with the removal of the existing and old oval swimming pool, it was built originally too high in one of the backyard corners and surrounded by overgrown landscape. The pool area was neither attractive or practical. The new pool and patio design process took a few months before the customer was completely happy and convinced that the old pool had to go. Once that was finalized, a total transformation of the backyard layout and landscape took place.
Due to the grade changes, the pool had to be lowered and a Nicolock Mini Colonial wall was built to retain the flowerbed soil. New rectangular concrete walls and a liner swimming pool was built along one side of the property, which allowed the grass area to be extended towards the pool. The swimming pool is equipped with many options including a safety auto cover that can be opened in one minute and also works as a solar cover. The auto cover also allows the customers to use the pool much longer during the year, starting from April 15 to October 15. This also saves in heating costs by preventing most of the heat evaporating in colder nights, and also in chemical consumption, maintenance of the water, and cleaning of the pool. A gas heater was also installed, along with a salt chlorine generator, LED lights, a fiberglass spa built next to the pool with a spillover, 2 sheer descent water features installed on the opposite to the spa, and an automation system that allows the homeowner to totally control pool, spa, lights, and heater from his or her smart phone. The swimming pool is 3 to 6 feet deep and it has full steps across the shallow area. The swimming pool coping, patio, and backyard sliding door steps were all built using Fiorito travertine pavers selected from the Gappsi showroom. if in need of a Pool And Patio Contractor contact Gappsi at 631-543-1177

When you start researching inground pools, you’ll quickly come across the term “gunite.” So, what does it actually mean? A gunite pool is a type of concrete pool that is built using a unique application method. Instead of pouring wet concrete into forms, gunite is a dry concrete mix that is blended with water at the nozzle of a high-pressure hose and then sprayed onto a steel reinforcement grid, known as rebar. This process creates a dense, durable, and monolithic shell that forms the foundation of your pool. The key advantage of this method is its incredible design flexibility. Because the gunite is sprayed onto a custom-built rebar framework, it allows for a highly customizable pool shape and design. Whether you envision a classic Roman-style pool, a winding lazy river, or a modern infinity edge, gunite can make it happen. This versatility is why it’s the preferred choice for homeowners who want a truly unique swimming pool that perfectly complements their home and landscape. The result is a strong, long-lasting structure that can be finished with a variety of materials, including plaster, tile, or pebble aggregate, for a beautiful and personalized look. ### The Construction Process Explained The construction of a gunite pool is a meticulous process that involves several key stages. It begins with excavation, where we dig out the area for your new pool according to the precise specifications of your design. Next, our team installs a complex web of steel rebar, creating a sturdy framework that will reinforce the pool’s structure. Plumbing and electrical lines are also strategically placed within this grid. Once the framework is complete, the magic of gunite happens. A specialized crew sprays the high-strength concrete mixture over the rebar cage, expertly sculpting the walls and floor to create the pool’s final shape. This application method ensures a dense, solid shell with exceptional structural integrity. ## Key Considerations for Gunite Pools Gunite pools are a fantastic choice for many homeowners, but like any major home improvement project, it’s important to understand the pros and cons before you commit. Their reputation for durability and design freedom is well-earned, offering a premium experience that can be tailored to your exact preferences. However, these benefits come with considerations regarding the installation timeline and long-term maintenance. Weighing these factors will help you determine if a gunite pool is the right fit for your lifestyle, budget, and vision for your backyard. At Gappsi, we believe in transparency and education. We want you to feel confident and informed throughout the entire process. That’s why we take the time to walk you through every aspect of gunite pool ownership, from the initial design possibilities to the routine care required to keep it looking pristine for years to come. Understanding these key considerations upfront ensures there are no surprises and that you’ll be thrilled with your investment for decades. ### The Pros: Durability and Customization The two biggest advantages of a gunite pool are its incredible durability and unmatched design flexibility. Gunite creates a reinforced concrete shell that is exceptionally strong and built to last for decades. This robust construction can withstand the shifting soils and freeze-thaw cycles we experience on Long Island, making it a reliable long-term investment. Beyond its strength, the primary draw for many is the limitless potential for customization. Unlike pre-molded fiberglass pools, gunite pools are built on-site, meaning you can design any shape, size, or depth you can imagine. This allows you to create a pool that fits perfectly into any backyard design, whether you have a sprawling estate or a compact space. ### The Cons: Installation Time and Upkeep While gunite pools offer many benefits, there are a couple of factors to consider. First, the installation process is more involved and takes longer than for other pool types. Because they are built from scratch on-site, the process involves several stages, including excavation, rebar installation, gunite application, and a curing period for the concrete, which can take several weeks. Additionally, the porous nature of the plaster finish, a common surface for gunite pools, requires more diligent water chemistry management to prevent algae growth. Regular brushing of the pool surface is also recommended. While gunite pools are incredibly durable, they do require a longer installation time compared to other pool types. ### Life Expectancy of a Gunite Pool One of the most compelling reasons to choose a gunite pool is its remarkable longevity. When properly built and maintained, a gunite pool shell can last a lifetime. The steel-reinforced concrete structure is incredibly resilient and can withstand decades of use and exposure to the elements without compromising its integrity. The interior surface, or finish, of the pool is what will require periodic attention. A standard plaster finish typically lasts between 7 to 12 years before it may need to be resurfaced. Upgraded finishes, such as pebble or aggregate, can last even longer, often 15 to 20 years or more. This long-term durability makes a gunite pool a lasting investment in your property’s value and your family’s enjoyment. ## Understanding Gunite Pool Costs in Long Island Determining the cost of a new gunite pool is one of the first steps in the planning process. It’s important to understand that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all price tag. Because gunite pools are completely custom, the final cost is influenced by a wide range of variables, from the size and complexity of the design to the materials you choose for the finish and surrounding patio. A simple, medium-sized pool will naturally have a different price point than a large, freeform pool with an attached spa, waterfalls, and custom lighting. Our goal at Gappsi is to help you design a pool that fits both your vision and your budget. During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss all the factors that contribute to the overall cost, providing you with a clear and detailed estimate. We’ll explore different design options, material choices, and additional features to help you make informed decisions. This transparent approach ensures you understand exactly where your investment is going and allows us to create a beautiful, high-quality gunite pool that aligns with your financial plan. ### Factors That Influence the Final Price Several key elements will shape the final cost of your gunite pool project. The most significant factor is typically the size and shape of the pool; larger and more complex designs require more materials and labor. The depth of the pool and the inclusion of features like tanning ledges or deep-end benches also play a role. Beyond the basic structure, the cost of a gunite pool can vary based on design complexity, size, and additional features like spas and water features. The materials you select for the interior finish, coping, and surrounding patio will also have a major impact. For example, choosing high-end porcelain pavers over standard concrete will affect the budget, as will the addition of custom lighting, automated covers, or advanced sanitation systems. ### What is the Average Cost of a Gunite Pool? While it’s difficult to provide a single “average” cost due to the custom nature of gunite pools, homeowners on Long Island can generally expect the starting price for a basic, high-quality gunite pool installation to be in the high five figures. This initial investment typically covers the design, excavation, construction of the pool shell, standard plaster finish, and essential equipment. However, most projects quickly surpass this baseline as homeowners add popular features that enhance both the beauty and functionality of their pool. Elements like an integrated spa, a stone waterfall, premium interior finishes, and an expansive patio can significantly increase the total project cost, often pushing it well into the six-figure range for a complete backyard oasis. ## Designing Your Dream Gunite Pool This is where the fun really begins! Designing your gunite pool is your opportunity to create a personalized retreat that reflects your style and meets your family’s needs. The beauty of gunite is its incredible flexibility, which allows us to move beyond standard shapes and sizes to craft something truly unique. Do you envision a sleek, modern lap pool for your morning workout? Or perhaps a lagoon-style oasis with gentle curves and a rock waterfall? Whatever your dream, we can design and build it. At Gappsi, our design process is a collaborative partnership. We listen carefully to your ideas, preferences, and how you plan to use the space. We’ll discuss everything from the overall aesthetic to the smallest details, like the placement of steps and benches for optimal comfort and flow. Our team will then create a detailed 3D rendering, allowing you to see your new pool and backyard from every angle before we ever break ground. This visualization process ensures the final result is exactly what you envisioned, creating a stunning centerpiece for your home that you’ll enjoy for years to come. ### Popular Pool Design Styles When it comes to gunite pool design, the possibilities are virtually endless. However, most designs tend to fall into a few popular categories. Understanding these styles can be a great starting point for gathering inspiration and defining your own personal taste. Whether you prefer clean, classic lines or a more natural, organic feel, there’s a design style that will perfectly complement your home’s architecture and your landscape. #### Traditional and Geometric Pools Traditional and geometric pools are timeless classics that never go out of style. These designs are characterized by clean lines, sharp angles, and classic shapes like rectangles, squares, or L-shapes. They often feature a formal, symmetrical layout that complements traditional or colonial-style homes beautifully. Roman and Grecian pools, with their elegant corners and stylized steps, also fall into this category. This style is perfect for homeowners who appreciate order and elegance, and it provides a perfect backdrop for formal landscaping and sophisticated patio designs. The clean lines also make them ideal for swimming laps and incorporating automatic pool covers. #### Modern and Freeform Designs For those who prefer a more natural or contemporary look, modern and freeform designs offer endless creative possibilities. Freeform pools break away from straight lines, instead featuring gentle curves and organic shapes that mimic natural bodies of water like ponds or lagoons. This style is perfect for integrating into lush landscapes and can be enhanced with rock waterfalls and tropical plantings. Modern designs, on the other hand, often embrace minimalism with sharp, geometric shapes but incorporate unique features like infinity edges (also known as vanishing edges), perimeter overflows, and shallow tanning ledges to create a sleek, resort-like feel. ### Custom Features and Add-ons The true magic of a custom gunite pool lies in the details. Beyond the shape and size, a wide array of custom features and add-ons can transform your pool from a simple swimming spot into a luxurious, multi-functional oasis. These additions not only enhance the visual appeal of your pool but also improve its functionality and your overall enjoyment of the space. #### Integrated Spas and Water Features One of the most popular additions to a gunite pool is an integrated spa. Because they are built as part of the main pool structure, attached spas can be designed in any shape and can feature a “spillover” effect, where the warm spa water cascades into the pool, creating a beautiful visual and soothing sound. Water features are another fantastic way to add ambiance. From dramatic rock waterfalls that create a naturalistic feel to elegant sheer descent waterfalls that provide a sleek, modern curtain of water, these features can be customized to suit your style and can be a stunning focal point for your entire backyard. #### Sundecks and Tanning Ledges Sundecks, also known as tanning ledges or Baja shelves, have become an incredibly popular feature in modern pool design. These are large, shallow areas, typically 6 to 12 inches deep, that provide the perfect spot to place a lounge chair and relax in the cool water while soaking up the sun. They are also a fantastic and safe play area for small children. These ledges can be designed in various shapes and sizes and can be equipped with bubbler fountains or umbrella sleeves for added comfort and style, creating a true resort-like experience right in your own backyard. ## How Gunite Compares to Other Pool Types When planning for a new inground pool, you’ll likely encounter three main types: gunite, vinyl liner, and fiberglass. Each has its own set of characteristics, and the best choice for you depends on your priorities, budget, and design goals. Gunite stands out for its durability and complete customization, making it the premium option for a truly bespoke backyard. However, understanding how it stacks up against the other types is crucial for making an informed decision that you’ll be happy with for years to come. We often find that homeowners who prioritize a unique design, long-term durability, and the ability to integrate custom features ultimately choose gunite. It offers a level of creative freedom that simply can’t be matched by pre-manufactured pool types. Let’s take a closer look at the key differences between gunite and its main alternatives, so you can see why it remains the top choice for luxury pool construction on Long Island. ### Gunite vs. Vinyl Liner Pools The most significant difference between gunite and vinyl liner pools is the construction and surface material. A vinyl liner pool consists of a pre-fabricated vinyl sheet that is set into an excavated hole with a structural wall frame made of steel, aluminum, or polymer. While they are typically the most affordable option upfront and have a smooth, non-porous surface, their biggest drawback is the liner itself. Liners can be punctured and will need to be replaced every 5 to 10 years, which is a significant long-term expense. In contrast, a gunite pool’s solid concrete shell is permanent, and while the interior finish needs resurfacing, the structure itself is far more durable and resistant to damage. ### Gunite vs. Fiberglass Pools Fiberglass pools are pre-molded shells that are manufactured in a factory and then delivered to your home to be set into an excavated hole. Their main advantages are a quick installation time and a smooth, non-porous gel coat surface that is resistant to algae and requires fewer chemicals. However, the biggest limitation of fiberglass is the lack of customization. You are restricted to the shapes, sizes, and depths offered by the manufacturer, and shipping constraints can limit the overall size of the pool. Gunite, on the other hand, is built on-site, offering complete freedom to design a pool of any shape, size, or depth, with endless possibilities for custom features like tanning ledges and attached spas. ## Our Process: From Consultation to Completion We believe that building your dream pool should be an exciting and enjoyable experience, not a stressful one. Your new gunite pool will provide countless hours of fun, relaxation, and memories for you and your family. To ensure you get the most out of your investment, it’s helpful to understand the basics of pool care and maintenance from the start. While gunite pools are incredibly durable, a little bit of routine care will keep the water sparkling clean and the equipment running smoothly for years to come. Don’t worry, modern pool technology has made maintenance easier than ever before. Many tasks can now be automated, and with a consistent schedule, you’ll find that taking care of your pool is a simple and manageable part of your routine. We’re here to help you get started on the right foot, providing you with the essential information you need to feel confident as a new pool owner. ### Choosing the Right Sanitizer System Keeping your pool water clean and safe is the most important aspect of pool maintenance. The sanitizer system is what kills bacteria and prevents algae growth. The most common and traditional option is a chlorine-based system, which uses tablets or liquid chlorine to sanitize the water. However, many homeowners today are opting for saltwater chlorine generators. These systems use a small amount of salt in the water to generate their own chlorine, resulting in softer-feeling water that is often less irritating to the skin and eyes. Other options include mineral systems and UV or ozone systems, which can reduce the amount of chlorine needed. We can discuss the pros and cons of each system to help you choose the best fit for your family and lifestyle. ### Tips for Gunite Pool Maintenance Regular maintenance is key to keeping your gunite pool in pristine condition. We recommend a simple weekly routine that includes testing and balancing the water chemistry, emptying the skimmer and pump baskets, and brushing the pool’s interior surface. Brushing is particularly important for plaster-finished gunite pools, as it helps prevent algae from taking hold on the porous surface. You’ll also need to periodically clean the filter to ensure it’s working efficiently. Over the long term, your pool’s plaster surface may need to be acid washed to remove stains, and eventually, it will need to be resurfaced. For any long-term care, our restoration and sealing services can keep your pool and patio looking like new.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it actually take to build a gunite pool? Building a gunite pool is a detailed craft, so it’s not an overnight process. The timeline can vary depending on the project’s complexity, local permitting, and weather. Generally, you can expect the entire process, from excavation to the final touches, to take several weeks to a few months. This includes time for the gunite shell to properly cure, which is a crucial step that ensures its long-term strength and durability.

Are there any real limits to the shapes and features I can add? This is where gunite truly stands out. Because the pool is built from scratch right in your backyard, your imagination is the primary guide. The main limitations are simply your property’s available space and your budget. You can create flowing, naturalistic curves, sharp modern angles, or a pool that perfectly fits an unusual corner of your yard. Features like built-in spas, tanning ledges, waterfalls, and underwater benches are all easily incorporated into the initial design.

What does the regular maintenance for a gunite pool really involve? Maintaining a gunite pool is quite manageable with a consistent routine. On a weekly basis, you’ll want to test the water chemistry and add chemicals as needed to keep it balanced and sanitized. You should also empty the skimmer baskets to keep the water circulating properly. Brushing the pool’s interior surface weekly is also a good practice, especially with a plaster finish, as it helps prevent algae from settling in.

Why should I choose gunite if other pool types can be installed faster? While it’s true that fiberglass or vinyl liner pools have a quicker installation time, gunite offers unparalleled long-term value and customization. A gunite pool is a permanent addition to your home, with a structure that is built to last a lifetime. The key benefit is the design freedom it provides, allowing you to create a pool that is a perfect reflection of your style and seamlessly integrates with your home’s architecture and landscape, something pre-molded pools just can’t offer.

Why is it better to have one company handle the pool, patio, and landscaping? Using one company for your entire backyard project creates a more cohesive and stress-free experience. When the same team designs the pool, patio, and surrounding landscape, every element works together in harmony. This ensures a seamless flow and a unified aesthetic. It also simplifies the process for you, giving you a single point of contact and eliminating the headache of coordinating schedules and plans between different contractors.
