Travertine Pool Coping And Spillover Gunite Spa

Travertine-Pool-Coping-And-Spillover-Gunite-SpaWhat Is Travertine Pool Coping & Spillover Gunite Spa?

Travertine is a natural stone that is harvested from quarries in Europe and Asia. This material is widely used for making tiles and pavers for interior and exterior floorings. They are used to make pool copings, too. Did you know that Travertine pool coping remains one of the finest choices in the market for enhancing the look and functionality of the pool area?

Travertine is available in different textures, shapes, and colors, giving homeowners the flexibility to create unique pool copings. If the pool is rectangular, our designers may recommend using travertine drop face pavers. But if your pool is round and curvy, then travertine bullnose pavers may be more appropriate.  Travertine is ready for use in a variety of sizes, finishes, and styles, including roman walnut, coral-stone, ivory, ivory swirl, tumbled bullnose, silver, and other finishes that make your pool area look genuinely outstanding.

Does Travertine Make A Good Pool Coping?

Travertine pool coping remains one of the finest choices in the market for enhancing the look and functionality of the pool area.

Tumbled and honed pavers are often the choice for travertine pool coping because they are rough yet not too harsh on the skin. They also make the surface safer even when wet because they offer friction. This means that you can walk barefoot on wet coping without fear of slipping. Travertine is an ideal material for pool coping for a couple of reasons. The first reason is this stone is cooler to the touch when compared to other stones. The second reason is it offers a high level of slip-resistance, making it safer for wet feet of all ages.

You will often see travertine coping in hotels and resorts because of their enduring beauty and grandeur. Why not bring the same luxuriousness to your home’s outdoor area? Gappsi offers high-quality travertine pavers at great prices.

Give Your Pool A Unique Look With Travertine Pavers

Natural stone pavers are commonly installed in pool areas of luxurious homes because of their beauty and their practicality. Travertine pavers are particularly popular. They are available in a variety of colors and shapes, offering design flexibility. There’s something about a travertine pool deck that is understatedly elegant. Aside from its enduring beauty, travertine also offers many other benefits.

Since this natural stone absorbs water, it keeps the pool area safe. Accidents like slipping can be minimized.  Travertine pavers can keep themselves cool even when they are exposed to heat.  In fact, they are 20% cooler than concrete pavers and other natural stones.

Travertine, like marble, is durable and strong. With proper care, its color and slip resistance capability will remain the same for a long time, thus preserving the elegance and safety of your pool area.

Compare Marble To Travertine & Travertine Wins For Being Less Expensive To Buy & Maintain!

The key to keeping your travertine pavers in excellent condition is proper and regular care. Clean the deck at least once a year using a pressure washer. You can also scrub the pavers with a brush. However, avoid using harmful cleaners that can damage the integrity of the natural stone.  Gappsi offers Cleaning and Sealing services for Paving Stone Patios, Driveways, and Retaining Walls.

Travertine-Pool-Coping-And-Spillover-Gunite-Spa1Are You Considering Adding A Spa To An Existing Inground Swimming Pool?

Even if your pool’s already in the ground, you can add a spa to it. Are you thinking of adding a spillover spa that will be an add-on to your existing pool? Its outer edge will at least be partly in the pool, which is why it’s called a spillover.  The water from your spa might flow into your pool as people get in and out of it.

The spillover spa looks clean and fits right into your existing pool design. Alternatively, you might consider installing an in-ground spa separate from your pool. This option can be designed to blend into the natural landscape with rocks, plants, and trees.

You might prefer a naturalistic, standalone spa, but keep in mind that it may end up costing more than the spillover spa.

The Spillover Gunite Spa is the Easier Option

Your spillover spa will be built into your existing pool. That means you won’t need to buy a second pump to keep your spa clean. Instead, both it and the pool can run on the same pump, saving you money and time on spa maintenance.

Cost isn’t the only thing that makes a spillover spa more appealing. Many people who have installed a spillover spa love the convenience of it. They can jump from the warm waters to the cool waters for a refreshing dip that segues into a relaxing float.

With a spillover spa, you get all of the benefits of having a hot tub, too. It helps you relax and relieve stress and adds value to your property. Why wouldn’t potential buyers want to have a pool-and-spa combo in their backyard?

Finally, a spillover spa looks excellent, too. It’s a streamlined addition to your pool, and it makes the setup appear that much more luxurious. You, your family, and your guests will love using it for years to come.

Travertine Coping And Spillover Gunite Spa In Yaphank NY

Gappsi’s latest home improvement was in Suffolk County Long Island in Yaphank.  The spa was built in gunite and the pool was built using a vinyl liner. We installed an automated control for the heat.  The homeowner can even control the flow of the spa from an iPhone or a smartphone. HOW COOL!  The spa was built between the pool and the pavilion. The homeowner can use the spa and also friends can see from the pavilion creating a congregating area between the spa and the pavilion sitting area. We installed stools wrapped with the liner on one side. Steps to get into the pool. And the pool is a gradual slope with a straight wall that goes from 45 inches in the shallow area to 66 inches in the deep end.

Marble Coping For Vinyl Pools & Spas

Marble-Coping-For Vinyl-Pools-&-Spas2Vinyl Liner Pool Installation

Marble Coping For Vinyl Pools & Spas is a popular type of pool and spa surface. Vinyl Pools are custom-made to fit your specific pool area.  Because they are pre-fabricated and installed relatively quickly, vinyl liner pools are usually less expensive to build and renovate than in-ground gunite pools with cement finishes. A typical vinyl liner replacement may take only a few hours with an experienced crew (not including water fill time), as opposed to days or weeks for a renovation and re-plaster.

Vinyl Liner Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Strengths

Liners are widely available, more affordable to install and replace, and can be installed quickly. They have benefits especially in colder climates, due to the lack of winter issues like calcite crystals. Even if a vinyl liner is damaged and faded during the winter, its surface is still smooth and therefore not abrasive to swimmers’ feet. Another benefit is that patterns and colors do not drive the price of a liner. You can choose from many patterns and colors without large differences in cost, unlike cementitious surfaces which can vary widely in price.

  • Weaknesses

Many would argue the biggest weakness of vinyl liner pools is their lack of customization. Concrete pools can be just about any shape and size, whereas liners are more limited in their shape and size. That all being said, technology continues to advance and we have been seeing more complex liner pools out there. Also, while you can get a plethora of patterns and colors, vinyl liners almost all are similar in feel and appearance…unlike a concrete pool which can have many textures and vibrant colors.

A metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Marble can have beautiful pattern movement within the stone and comes in a wide variety of colors from white to salmon to gray, blue, green, and black.

Regardless of your chosen pool design, deciding which natural stone pavers to use for your pool surrounding will make a very powerful statement about your taste, status, and success. Some factors to consider include appearance, durability, non-slip finish, environmental factors like weather conditions, and finally, sealant.

A Raised Spa that is elevated above the pool surface. A raised spa can add a dramatic focal point to a poolscape. A raised spa can double as a water feature if it is designed to permit spa water to cascade into the pool. Depending on the type of installation, the spa may or may not share the main pool’s circulating equipment. Raised perimeter-overflow spas overflow on all sides, creating a unique gravity-defying effect.

  • How Much Does an Outdoor Kitchen Cost?

An outdoor kitchen will add value to any home, and increase the enjoyment for your family and guests.  The cost will depend on factors, such as appliances chosen, materials, and size. It is important to also consider if the project requires electrical, plumbing, gas, or ventilation.  Outdoor kitchens have risen in popularity partly due to their functionality. It is the perfect additional livable space in the home where you can cook, eat, entertain and relax.

Many times, homeowners hire a contractor to build their outdoor kitchen, because they offered the lowest price. But the lowest price isn’t always the best way to go. It is not necessary to break the bank, but it is important that whomever you choose to work on your home, knows what they are doing, and is willing to stand by their work.

Marble-Coping-For Vinyl-Pools-&-Spas3Gappsi designed and installed this gorgeous backyard setting in Medford Suffolk County NY.  The design of the backyard started with the installation of the 20 x 40 vinyl liner swimming pool with concrete walls. The pool was designed to incorporate a raised spa that spills into the pool. The 8 x 8 raised spa is veneered with Silver Travertine and Coping G038 24×24 marble pavers.

The entire patio was paved with G043 marble pavers selected from the Gappsi stone collection. The Gappsi Stone Collection offers beautiful color variations of beige, browns, and whites. In addition, a sundeck with two fountain bubblers was installed so they can be enjoyed while in the pool.

Travertine Patios And Pools On Long Island

Travertine Patios And Pools On Long Island

Travertine Patios And Pools On Long IslandGappsi designed and completed the landscaping and Travertine Patios And Pools On Long Island recently in a home located in Yaphank, NY.  Gappsi installed a freeform vinyl pool with a gunite spa spilling into the pool. Three structures were built including a gazebo, a pavilion, and a pergola; since the property is surrounded by woods populated by deer we decided to screen the gazebo for bugs also.

Backyard Gunite Spa with G035 Travertine Pavers

The home’s backyard was built on two levels so Gappsi utilized natural stone borders to retain the hearth and create a more natural look as well. The freeform vinyl pool is 18 x36, with the deepest part of the pool only 5 1/2 feet. There is a gradual slope on the bottom with the walls being straight down. The stairs that were installed are in the shallow area and we added 3 built-in stools in the pool to sit and relax poolside.

The spa that was added is a gunite spa finished with super blue diamond brights. This pavilion was built to add a shaded area while relaxing near the pool with a pergola for a lounge chair. The patio was paved with G035 travertine selected from the Gappsi stone collection and the veneer on the spa is also G035 travertine. The entire backyard has a very beautiful setting and layout.  The homeowners will enjoy the backyard for many many years to come along with all the family members.

Why Consider a Travertine Pool Deck?

One of the best reasons to consider these pavers is purely aesthetic. They provide a unique look that, when compared with other pavers, makes your patio or pool deck stand out amongst others in your neighborhood! An essential part of buying a pool is thinking about the best pool deck for your family. Travertine tile pool patios are increasingly popular because they are slip, heat, and mold resistant.  Travertine is a natural form of sedimentary limestone. It develops around natural spring mineral deposits, leading to distinctive swirls throughout the limestone. Due to the travertine tiles’ layered, mottled texture and beauty, the ancient Romans favored it as a building material.

Travertine pavers are ideal because they stay cool to the touch; Perfect for Barefoot-in!.

Simply by designing the yard with travertine pool pavers the customer increased the safety of their pool area by providing a stable, slip-resistant surface. The porous stones are naturally rough and even more so when they are wet making the surface slip-resistant.

Use Travertine Paving Stones in the following places:

  • pool decks
  • patios
  • decorative walls
  • stairs
  • fireplaces
  • driveway

Benefits of Travertine Patios And Pools On Long Island

Travertine is eco-friendly
All travertine stones are eco-friendly as they adopt an environment-friendly manufacturing process as opposed to marble. In addition, this stone is super low maintenance; they stay intact much longer, thus avoiding the need to replace them regularly.

Extremely durable
Due to Travertiens’s ability to withstand heat and extreme temperatures, travertine pool pavers are known to be extremely durable, thus making them ideal for all outdoor projects.  For example driveways, walkways, patios, and pools; enjoy your barbeques and parties.

Water Absorbency
Concrete pavers do absorb some water where tiles do not, and neither does flagstone. Since water is constantly present around a swimming pool, especially if it is heavily used by children choosing travertine pavers is smart because it absorbs more water than other paving materials.

Non-Fading
Better paving materials today are fade resistant, but in the face of the sun, over the years even pavers do lose some color. Travertine pool decks are natural stones whose color is permanent versus dyes that are long-lasting or fade-resistant.

No Efflorescence
What is that? Efflorescence is a powdery white deposit that’s commonly seen on concrete surfaces and requires cleaning to remove it.

Travertine-Patios-And-Pools-On-Long-Island2

While this isn’t part of our list above of reasons for suggesting travertine for patios and pools the fact is that it is hugely popular. This isn’t a fad or trend; it’s been in big demand for patios and pool decks for several years now, and instead of showing signs of losing favor as a trend does, the requests for travertine paving in the backyard continue to grow.

Are You Ready To Level Up Your Yard?

When looking to remodel your pool deck, having a selection of colors and sizes to choose from makes the process all the more enjoyable. At Gappsi you can select from an array of travertine deck pavers’ colors, sizes, designs, and patterns. No matter your taste, finding the right paver for your style is simple!

Work With a Contractor For Maintaining Your Travertine Pool Deck

Although travertine tiles are water-resistant, they may gradually appear stained. Further, if your travertine pool deck is close to loose soil, dirt can become trapped in the natural pores.

Fortunately, you can easily prevent this by sealing your deck every three to five years. Although you’re not required to seal your deck, you’ll be grateful that you did so a few years down the road.  Your pool contractor can replace damaged tiles or may recommend a cleaning and sealing of your pool’s patio.

If you clean your travertine tiles on a regular basis, you shouldn’t need much help from a contractor to repair or replace them.
