Our team recently installed a Racquetball court in Atlantic Beach NY with Mateflex Sports Game Court tiles. Racquetball is a racquet sport and a team sport played with a hollow rubber ball on an indoor or outdoor court. The modern sport of racquetball uses a stringed racquet to paddle the ball to increase velocity and control. Unlike most racquet sports, such as tennis and badminton, there is no net to hit the ball over. Unlike squash, there is no tin (out-of-bounds area at the bottom of the front wall) to hit the ball above. In addition, the court’s walls, floor, and ceiling are legal playing surfaces, except court-specific designated hinders being out-of-bounds.
Racquetball is played between various players on a team who try to bounce the ball with the racquet onto the ground so it hits the wall; then the opposing team’s player cannot bounce it back to the wall.
The racquetball court installed used two different colors of blue. A lighter blue for the outside perimeter and a navy blue for the racquetball court inlay. The court was striped with white lines. Game lines are masked out using quality tapes. They are then treated with specialized primers and an application of a high-performance, specialized 2-part polyurethane paint.
To complete the look we installed a synthetic turf fringe all the way around to separate the fence area. The look created a decorative border around the court between the fence and the Mateflex tiles.
4 Benefits of Choosing Sports Game Court Tiles
If you own a sports facility, you want to offer the most durable courts for people to play on. Over time and after much wear and tear, your courts may need some TLC. This may have you considering different options, such as sports court tiles, to get your courts up to their greatest playing potential. Sports game court tiles are typically easy to maintain and provide a great alternative to regular floors.
Minimize Risk of Injury – When you install proper flooring you significantly minimize risk. Injuries can include skin abrasions, and concussions compared to concrete. Sports game courts are designed to absorb the shock of falls. It has just enough grip to allow players to easily pivot, scoot, run, and jump without falling.
Versatility – One of the key strengths of sports game court tiles is their adaptability. They can be installed over various base materials, including concrete and asphalt, making them an ideal choice for facilities that host multiple sports. This versatility extends to both indoor and outdoor settings, accommodating sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball, and more. The ability to quickly convert and adapt these spaces is particularly beneficial for multi-purpose sports complexes.
UV Resistance and Durability – Many sports game court tiles are manufactured with UV-resistant materials, which helps in maintaining their appearance and functionality over time, especially in outdoor settings. This resistance to sun damage ensures that the colors remain vibrant and the material does not degrade quickly, providing a long-lasting, attractive playing surface.
Maintenance – Sports game court tiles are designed for ease of maintenance. Unlike traditional court surfaces that may require specialized maintenance routines, these tiles can be cleaned with simple, non-abrasive cleaning solutions. This ease of upkeep not only saves time but also reduces the long-term maintenance costs associated with sports flooring.
Mateflex Uses Expansion Joint Technology
When plastic is put out into the elements, it will expand and contract with varying temperatures and sun conditions. If this is not accommodated in the design and installation of the modular tile surface, several issues can arise. The surface can shift over time, buckle in extreme heat, and cause inaccurate game line dimensions just to name a few. Matéflex accounts for all of this with its unique expansion joint technology.
This technology is what sets Mateflex outdoor court flooring surfaces above the competition for all sports. The expansion joints allow the tiles to be flexible and conform better to uneven sub-surfaces, providing more consistent ball bounces than any other outdoor tile on the market.
The expansion joints also allow the court to be fastened to the subsurface around the perimeter of the court. This is done for several practical reasons, the first being to prevent physical or thermal movement of the surface throughout its long service life. When properly fastened, the tiles are designed to expand and contract within their footprint, eliminating any concerns with thermal expansion. This allows the tiles to be trimmed tight to any vertical obstruction, giving the court a very clean and finished look. It also ensures that your game line dimensions will be accurate regardless of temperature and sun conditions.
The expansion joint technology is one of many reasons Matéflex Flooring surfaces are the perfect balance of performance and durability for your next outdoor sports game court project.
