The possibilities for designing your backyard are endless, and with the right ideas and inspiration, you can create a functional and beautiful space that meets your needs and desires.

Gappsi’s latest backyard renovation design was located in East Northport, NY.  Our team started by installing a new limestone patio.  It was paved with the Limestone G044 selected from the Gappsi Natural Stone Collection.  The stone pavers are a combination of grays, whites, and beige colors with a marbleized look.

Outdoor Kitchens

An outdoor kitchen should be seriously considered for your backyard.  An outdoor kitchen can be combined with a bar to create a complete dining area. The backyard bar design ideas are limitless!  Just grab some stools, and you’re good to go.  Plus, if you want your outdoor living room to be the place where loved ones gather.   An outdoor kitchen will ensure you’re always the host, no matter the occasion! It is the most functional feature you could add to your backyard.  You’ll use it to grill delicious food.  An outdoor grill station is something you can use and enjoy right away.  Regardless of whether the rest of your backyard is complete or not everyone will have a memorable time and it will be in your backyard!

Backyard Renovations Complete With A Pergola East Northport NY (3)We installed an L-shaped outdoor kitchen with travertine silver color four-inch high random length stone veneers. On the countertop, we used polished granite including a raised bar area for additional seating. To complete the outdoor kitchen we installed a Twin Eagles bar sink, a Summit refrigerator, all Twin Eagles stainless steel cabinets, and a Delta Grill including a side burner.

Fire Pits | Fireplace

There’s nothing quite like cozying up to a warm fire especially when it’s in your own backyard!  We installed a fireplace in the back and a vinyl pergola.  We installed a wood-burning fireplace and veneered it with the same silver travertine in a random pattern.  Added to the design is a combination of boxes on both sides of the fire chamber to store the wood. The fireplace was custom-designed. Gappsi’s team used bluestone treads for each mantel on the fireplace and over the wood box.

Backyard Renovations Complete With A Pergola East Northport NY (1)Water Features | Fountains

If you’re going for a high-end aesthetic with your backyard design.  A water feature is going to be a must-have!  Just about any option you choose is going to increase the serenity of your space.  If you already have a swimming pool.  One of the more popular options is installing a stone waterfall to pour directly into the pool. The possibilities are endless! There are water walls, streams that can run through your entire yard, courtyard fountains, staircase waterfalls, and others! Regardless of what you choose, it is important to ensure you work with your backyard, not against it.

Country Lane Vinyl Pergola With EZShade

Next Gappsi added a pergola near the fireplace area to add a seating area to enjoy the crackling of the fire.  Country Lane makes this pergola along with the EZShade System that rolls on tracks.

You can use it to protect yourself from the sun during the hot summer days.  It is like an umbrella and also protects from dampness coming over the sitting area.

A Pergola Compared To A Gazebo – What Is the Difference?

Pergolas shade owners from the sun’s rays and enclosed styles can keep you dry during periods of rain showers. Pergola is an Italian word with ancient origins deriving from the Latin term “pergola” which means latticework or trellis structure that supports climbing plants. They are distinguishable from gazebos because of their differing dimensions. A gazebo is a freestanding structure with open sides, and a roof, and typically constructed in hexagonal or octagonal shapes. Pergola structures consist of parallel columns that hold up an open roof or grid of beams, rafters, or latticework.

Pergolas can be customized to include retractable grommet curtains for privacy, incandescent lighting for nighttime lounging, picturesque box planters or hanging planters filled with fragrant herbs or flowers, and ornate trellises for fast-growing vines to climb.

Backyard Renovations Complete With A Pergola East Northport NY (4)How Do I Choose The Right Pergola Design For My Backyard?

The main thing to keep in mind is that you want your pergola to match your home and yard aesthetic. If you’re living in a traditional home, for example, you probably don’t want to select a sleek, contemporary, steel pergola. You also want to be mindful of size.

Do Pergolas Add Value to Your Home?

Before investing in one, many homeowners wonder if a pergola will add value to their home. While there are many caveats, in short, the answer is yes. A pergola has the potential to add value to your home, with many estimates putting the return on investment at somewhere around 50% to 80%.

How Do You Make A Pergola Look Nice?

Gappsi is an authorized dealer for Country Lane, Included in their product line are pavilions and gazebos. Travertine Patio Pavers & Pool Coping in Nassau & Suffolk Counties

Travertine patio pavers and pool designs are one of the best choices a property owner can make for their backyard. Travertine pavers offer multiple undeniable benefits, making them ideal for backyard patios, fire pits, pool decks, stairs, decorative walls, and more. These natural stone pavers will enhance the beauty of your property’s landscape.

If you’re confused about whether you should choose Travertine pavers for your patios and pool copings or not, read the following benefits of constructing travertine patios and pool copings:

Benefits of Travertine Patios & Pool Copings

Here are some benefits of installing travertine patios and pool copings in Nassau & Suffolk Counties:

Durability

Travertine is an exceptionally durable material that can withstand extreme temperatures. Using this material for pool coping and patios will work in your favor as it can withstand foot traffic. It’s why travertine is often used in areas with heavy foot traffic, such as patios, walkways, and even driveways.

Water Absorption

A pool coping is right on the edge of the pool. It is the first thing your feet touch when you emerge from the swimming pool. Since your pool coping comes into direct contact with water, you need it to be water-absorbent. Concrete pavers do not offer water absorbency, leading them to crack and get damaged over time. On the other hand, travertine is the ideal choice because it can absorb water more efficiently. Hence, using it for your pool coping and patio will help them last a long time.

Eco-Friendliness

Travertine is an eco-friendly stone as it undergoes an environmentally-friendly manufacturing process compared to marble. So, travertine is the way to go if you want to adopt sustainable life choices and home improvement projects for your backyard. Furthermore, this natural stone is exceptionally low-maintenance. It stays intact significantly longer than concrete, making it a cost-effective and sustainable choice.

Long-Lasting & Non-Fading

Since travertine patio pavers are durable, they last a long time. These stone pavers are fade-resistant and keep mold and mildew at bay. They can withstand continued exposure to sunlight without losing color for a long time.

Aesthetic Appeal & Curb Value

Lastly, travertine has an undeniable pull that adds to its aesthetic appeal. It has charming and distinctive limestone swirls that add to its beauty. Travertine tiles have a layered, mottled texture and distinct look. Since travertine patio pavers and pool copings are visually pleasing, they can add to your property’s curb appeal. When you sell your property, prospective buyers might be willing to pay more for the luxurious travertine patio and pool construction.

Cool to the Touch

When you get out of your pool, the last thing you want is to step on a sweltering surface. Travertine pavers in Nassau & Suffolk Counties are also ideal for pool copings. Travertine is cool to the touch, enabling you to walk barefoot on these surfaces.

Slip-Resistant

Adding travertine pool tiles and patio pavers to your yard will enhance your safety by preventing accidental falls. Travertine is a slip-resistant material due to its naturally rough surface. It’s an excellent choice for pool copings and decks since you have to step on them with wet feet, which increases the likelihood of slip and fall accidents.

No Efflorescence

Efflorescence is a powdery white substance commonly observed on concrete surfaces. You need to clean the surface to remove it thoroughly. Travertine pavers do not have efflorescence. It’s a popular choice for people who want a hassle-free patio and backyard that does not require much cleaning. Travertine is easy to clean and retains its look for a long time.

Maintain Your Travertine Patio Pavers & Pool Coping

Even though travertine patio pavers or tiles are water-resistant, they can gradually accumulate stains. Furthermore, since your pool coping is close to loose soil and the water from the pool, it can collect dirt and stubborn stains that settle into its natural pores. You can prevent this by sealing these pavers and copings every three to five years. It will help ensure your patio and coping do not suffer from preventable damage.

Cleaning & Sealing Travertine Patio Pavers

Gappsi also provides its clients with immaculate patio paver cleaning and sealing services. We can clean, seal, and restore your old patios with our state-of-the-art machinery and expertise that spans decades. We steam-clean the surface and then apply top-quality polymeric sand to it. Then, our experts use industry-grade vibrating equipment to settle the sand into the deck.

We also use a mechanical plate compactor and apply a top-tier Polyurethane sealer to seal the patio so that it looks as good as new. Moreover, sealing provides your patio with a polished and chic look that keeps the travertine pavers from looking rough and unappealing. After proper cleaning and sealing, the shine can enhance your property’s curb appeal. It also protects your paved patio from water damage, unsightly cracks, weeds, mildew, algae, and continued sunlight exposure. The sealant also draws out the color of the travertine patio pavers.

Backyard Ideas And Poolscapes On Long Island

Backyard Ideas And Poolscapes

Backyard Ideas And Poolscapes2

Are you looking for backyard ideas and poolscapes to level up your backyard?  Summertime is here and it’s time to enjoy those long summer nights while being in the comforts of your home.

One refreshing way to enjoy your backyard and beat the heat is to take a dip in a swimming pool. Today’s in-ground pools go way beyond the turquoise-lined rectangular shapes that quickly began to populate backyards.  Many people now want poolscapes with built-in waterfalls, surrounding gardens, and organic shapes making your pool a beautiful element added to your backyard landscape.

What is a Poolscape?

A poolscape is simply the landscape surrounding any pool, along with the shape and the type of pool itself. There are a plethora of options when it comes to the general design and within each theme even more options for the type of greenery and other decorative items you may want. You can choose to play a hand in the design of the poolscape yourself, higher a professional designer, or rely on the expertise of a contractor. No matter how you choose to design your pool, it is essential you hire a professional to put it all together.  People use combinations of these ideas below along with all kinds of greenery.

General Poolscape Categories

  • Asian Landscapes
  • Bank Checks – This will incorporate a retaining wall
  • English Landscape
  • Tropical
  • Hawaiian
  • Fireplace
  • Outdoor kitchen
  • Garden
  • Waterfalls
  • Much more

Backyard Ideas And Poolscapes

You May be Wondering What Is Right For Me?

The right type of poolscape all depends on personal preference; however, there are some things to keep in mind. First is the size of your yard which, may limit your options. Next is the type of ground you have on your property because it determines the amount of work it will take to create the look you want,  For instance, areas with the hard ground or desert areas may be more expensive when it comes to installing a lot of greenery or a tropical setting because it is dryer and the ground is harder.

What Type of Features Do You Want?

There are many options like waterfalls, ponds, and fountains to choose from to mention a few popular ones. The actual shape of the pool is a consideration too. Some backyard ideas and poolscapes may look better with a rectangular design, others will compliment curved pools.

Before choosing the style you like you will want to look at plenty of examples, catalogs, and websites. Remember, once construction is underway it might be difficult to change your mind.

How much will it cost?

Price really will vary, whatever you spend, you can be sure that a great design will improve the value of your home and will improve the quality of your time spent in the backyard.

Why do I need a contractor?

A contractor is essential for a large job.  Doing the job the right way the first time will ensure a backyard you can be proud of. Many of the features may be difficult for one not familiar and experienced with creating poolscapes, meaning not hiring a professional can take much longer and can even become more expensive in wasted time and resources.

The pool and surrounding features go hand-in-hand to create an all-encompassing project. A pool contractor will work with you throughout designing your pool project to accommodate the land it will be built on and will collaborate with you and a landscaper to see that design come to life as the pool is being built.

Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031

BLACK LIMESTONE FLAMED & TUMBLED G031Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031Why should you use Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031 when paving your driveway?

Are you are looking for a classy look for your driveway? Gappsi’s offers a Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031 paver that we recommend will create a WOW driveway that will stand out from your neighbors.  This paver is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate, they are a highly versatile natural stone that is best suited and stable for your driveway application.

Driveways are great places for showing off your personality.  When choosing your pavers ensure they can withstand the high pressure of the vehicle and any weather-related problems that may occur in your area.

The Perfect Driveway WOW Choice Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031

Black Limestone driveway pavers are a perfect choice because they have great beauty, more durability, and less corrosion. Their rough and rugged texture makes them non-slip and water-resistant as well. The different lithotypes are quite similar: they are mudstone composed mainly of calcite and have the same fabric, characterized by the effect of the packing.  Black limestone paving is a very popular limestone that is dark charcoal greyish black in colour to achieve a contemporary looking patio with straight sawn edges to add the wow factor.

What does the Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031 natural texture feel like?

In terms of texture, limestone will give you a smoother finish with fewer ridges.  It offers a more even finish perfect for driveways as well as many indoor projects too. If you are looking for a more contemporary finish then sandstone with a sawn finish would be best; keep in mind there are certain types with a grittier finish that can be more slip-resistant.

What is Limestone Made of?

The surface of Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031 paving stone apart from the occasional riven is very flat and uniform; this combined with the consistent black color makes it suitable for contemporary gardens and landscapes. The black limestone is extremely dense, hence making the products strong and durable. This natural limestone is very tough and slip-resistant plus has great tolerance in freezing and thawing conditions; which is ideal for commercial sites.

Limestone is mainly composed of calcium carbonate, which is a type of mineral called calcite. The reason most limestones are black is due to the calcite crystals being clear and the origin of black limestone is in the marine sediments where sunlight is radiated. Due to the high concentration of organic matter everywhere, it retains a black color.

Black limestones are usually formed in a deposit environment with limited circulation and high organic matter such as a lagoon. This results in organic feeding, limiting the presence of decaying organisms, and reducing anaerobic conditions that are similar to the back swamp environment in classic settings.

Black Limestone Flamed & Tumbled G031 vs. other Limestones?

The mineral composition of limestone and black limestone is no different from each other. The black limestone in appearance is due to its high organic matter content which is the only difference.  Most of the black limestone contains fossils, which give it an attractive appearance perfectly suited for flooring, tiling, and paving.

When choosing the perfect limestone for your home or business don’t look for features in the limestones, just find the color you like and keep it simple.  Depending on your location in the world your environment and outdoor life will be different. If you live in a place where there is a road next to your house or there is a highway then black limestone paving may be better for you.

Are You Feeling The Heat?

Many of us are feeling the heat in our backyards right now, with heat waves making gardens very hot in parts of the world.  One of the most undesirable effects of hot weather is paving that is just too hot to even stand on, scrapping any patio ideas that involve walking barefoot. To help reduce the heat choose light-colored stone. As a general rule, no matter what paving materials you choose, go for a light color as it reflects rather than absorbs heat.

Choosing your pavers carefully will help you avoid getting your feet scorched after getting out of the pool. Among the best paving materials for reducing heat are limestone and sandstone.
