In the front area of the showroom, we have displayed all new porcelain pavers. Gappsi is a direct importer of porcelain pavers, porcelain coping, and natural stone coping from Italy. In front of the showroom, we displayed a miniature bocce ball court. Our bocce sports game courts are built with synthetic wood that will not warp.  Using synthetic wood sides, there are no exposed nails and no maintenance. Old Tennis Court Conversion to Multisport Court Pickleball & Putting Green | Ridge NY

old-tennis-court-conversion-to-multisport-courtCheck out our recent tennis court conversion to a multisport court that has been revitalized!  This is an old tennis court in Leisure Knoll in Ridge Long Island NY. The entire court is being remodeled and converted into a multisport game court. Our team at Gappsi will first start with pressure washing the tennis court.  This process reveals many potholes allowing water to sit.  This often leads to further concrete cracking or foundation structural issues. Puddled areas, or low spots, can also be a trip hazard if they have sunk enough to affect the players’ footing.

Old Tennis Court Conversion to Pickleball 

As we prepare the courts to re-level the potholes the tennis courts’ netting is removed first. The new tennis court is built using synthetic turf. This method of tennis court construction is a new process here in the United States, but it has been used in Italy and Europe for many years.  Synthetic turf reduces the need for constant maintenance due to cracking and delamination of hard concrete or asphalt courts. Due to the drainage capabilities of synthetic turf, there is less puddling and damage to the courts. Also, there is less downtime due to inclement weather when it occurs.   

Pickleball has been the fastest-growing sport in America for the past three years.  We are going to split the old tennis court in half. On one side will be 3 Pickleball Courts, and a putting green, with the other half a tennis court. 

The multisport game courts will use polypropylene tiles and synthetic turf for the putting green. This is a major transformation for the tennis court area.   Our team are renovation experts.  We understand the importance of minimizing the destruction of the surrounding areas.   Leisure Knolls had an existing fence and landscaping surrounding the courts which were utilized as we maintained minimal destruction during the renovation process.

Just like magic, we converted the two old tennis courts into an all-new sports game court area for the Leisure Knolls community.  In addition to the 3 pickleball courts and tennis court, we installed a putting green in the back corner and an all-new synthetic turf area for the kids to play on.

Once in place, this sophisticated, state-of-the-art system of cross ribs affords a completely flat play surface that puts a spring into every step, improves comfort on the court, reduces fatigue and leg stress, and heightens play. In the remaining area, we used a dark green tile and surrounded all the courts with a synthetic turf fringe. Each court has a multisport netting installed, which is adjustable for different sports played on the courts.  A player can use the space to play pickleball, badminton, or volleyball simply by adjusting the net for the game.

For the tennis court flooring, we installed synthetic turf. The sports turf used is specifically made for tennis courts.  Synthetic turf reduces the need for constant maintenance due to cracking and delamination of hard concrete or asphalt courts. Artificial grass tennis courts require little to no maintenance compared to natural grass surfaces, which require continual care of watering, mowing, and fertilizers. Synthetic grass tennis courts provide a softer and even playing surface, for your feet and joints! How to Select the Right Outdoor Batting Cage for Your Needs

Whether you’re using your batting cage for your backyard, school/university, or commercial facility, the first question you need to ask is.  “How will we be using this cage?” That one question can save you thousands of dollars.  Not to mention a lot of trouble, so be sure you know the answer.

Maybe you’re a homeowner who’s setting up a backyard batting cage for the weekend so the kids can play in the backyard.  Maybe you’re a school or commercial facility and you need the cage up for a weekend tourney or fundraising event.  Either way a temporary, above-ground batting cage is a perfect choice.

If you’re looking for a cage that will perform day in and day out for years to come, then you need a more permanent batting cage like an in-ground one.

Above-ground batting cages are generally temporary outdoor batting cage solutions, perfect for backyard cage use, corporate, or fundraising events. Most above-ground nets are considered portable, and can quickly be set up at any location with a flat surface. The exception to this rule is the Bolt-Down cages.  As the name suggests, it needs to be bolted down to a concrete surface.

In-ground batting cages are for more permanent outdoor solution. To install these batting cage frames, you’re going to have to do some digging. The frames of these cages and nets can last for years. Many schools, universities, and commercial facilities benefit from side-by-side multi-lane batting cages that not only reduce the overall footprint of the cage but also help to reduce costs.

Determining Your Cage Size

Now that you know which TYPE of cage you need, the next step is determining what SIZE of cage you’ll need.  No matter what type of cage you’ve selected, you’ll need a flat surface for your cage to occupy.  Be sure to leave a minimum of 3 feet between the net and existing structures like sheds, garages, and houses to prevent damage and potential ricochet. Please don’t install your cage near trees and other objects like fences or telephone poles that can become potential ricochet points. If you don’t have much room, don’t despair. Other measures can be taken to install buffers inside your batting cage too.  For example padding on the object itself using pole padding to deaden the impact. These steps can allow you to place your batting cage closer to a structure.

No one size fits all when it comes to batting cages, you may have space restrictions or may not need a full 70’ for pitching and just need a 40’ for hitting.

There are two primary considerations when addressing bocce ball court construction; one is the playing surface and the second is the lighting. Keep in mind that no matter how aesthetically pleasing a bocce court is, nor how expensive the drainage system is if it has an inferior surface it will get less use! Likewise, if you can not see at night the court it will also get less use.  A premium surface should play fast, have minimal bounce, and be easy to maintain.

The game of bocce ball is very old. There is evidence that a bocce-like sport involving rolling rocks toward a target was even played by ancient Egyptians. The formal game known as bocce, or bocci, was subsequently developed in Italy and spread across the globe, becoming a popular game in many Western countries today. Bocce matches sometimes take place at night, and Gappsi has developed lighting packages for any level of competition.

When lighting a bocce court, many factors come into play. The light must cover the entire surface. The light must not shine into the eyes of the players. The fixtures must be durable to withstand an errant toss or unsteady player. Finally, the fixtures must be attractive so as not to detract from the daytime appearance of the court.

If your bocce ball court is about 60 feet long, it may require 3 to 5 light poles along the edge of the court itself. The pole positioning has to be placed evenly to ensure that the lights to be installed would illuminate the same lighting from each other’s end of the court. This would also give ample allowance if in the future you plan to extend the court.

LED Light Pole Height

You have to ensure that the poles are identical to each other’s lengths/heights. The general height requirement for it is about 16 feet. The poles are typically made of wood, but others prefer metal poles. So, it is up to you which one to use as long as they’re the same height and installed properly.  The general height requirements give ample lighting when used and it won’t get in the way when tossing the ball when playing.

Why Use LED Lights?

It’s no secret that LED lights are energy and cost-efficient. But, at the same time, it is ideal to use LED lighting for the bocce court in your backyard so you to have the option of the color temperature. Bocce ball is a casual game and lighting is important when you’re playing in the late afternoon or at night. You don’t want bright lights to become a hindrance for a fun game—and too bright lighting would be harmful to the eyes up close—so warm lighting rather than bright sunlight white is more advisable.

Gappsi designed and built this Bocce Court for a private residence in Sands Point NY. The sports court was built over a recycled concrete base with a thin layer of blue stone screening. The structure of the wall was built with pressure-treated lumber and faced Azek on the inside and outside of the Bocce Ball Court. The floor for the court is the Gappsi bocce court synthetic turf and the coping on the walls is Indiana limestone. It was the customer’s design choice and selection. In addition, the limestone blends in with the Azek finish on the walls.

An led light system was installed under the coping. The night version is featured in the video. The led lights can be rotated to different colors or stopped on a desired color. This is the latest Gappsi Sports Court Built in Nassau County Long Island NY.
