Luxury Backyard Redesign and Pool Renovation Dix Hills NY

luxury-backyard-redesign-and-pool-renovation-dix-hills-ny1Investing in a luxury backyard redesign and pool renovation can be a great way to increase the value of your home.  It can make your property more attractive to potential buyers and enhance your overall enjoyment of your outdoor space.  Gappsi recently completed a total backyard renovation in Dix Hills NY.

We remodeled the original vinyl pool that was built with steel walls.  A steel-walled pool is simply not a permanent structure while a concrete-walled pool is.  A steel wall pool boasts many advantages over other structures, especially in a freeze/thaw climate such as ours.  It is typically the least expensive option when compared to other pool structures. However, just because the pool itself is less expensive doesn’t mean you sacrifice the quality, aesthetics, and functionality of the pool.  A vinyl liner pool can be customized like a gunite or concrete pool and offers homeowners versatility in design options.

Why Upgrade Pool Plumbing System?

We installed new plumbing, new skimmers, new jets, and a new liner. In addition, the equipment was installed on the side, away from the living space.

There are many reasons to upgrade your pool plumbing system, including:

  • Water quality – Modern filters and pumps can improve water clarity and make it safer and healthier for swimming. They can also reduce the amount of chemicals needed to treat the water. For example, an ozone water purification system can neutralize bacteria and algae using natural minerals and low levels of chlorine.
  • Efficiency – Variable-speed pumps can be more efficient than single-speed pumps, using up to 90% less energy. They can also improve circulation, which helps the pool filter water more effectively.
  • Noise – Variable-speed pumps are quieter than single-speed pumps, which can make for a more peaceful pool experience.
  • Plumbing issues – Pool plumbing systems can deteriorate over time due to age and climate, and may develop issues like leaks or cracked pipes. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a recommended plumbing material for in-ground pools because it’s durable and resistant to corrosion. If your plumbing is made of PVC, you should replace it if it becomes brittle or warped, or if you notice pinhole leaks.

luxury-backyard-redesign-and-pool-renovation-dix-hills-ny5 We installed synthetic turf in all the remaining areas on both sides of the house.  Artificial turf is a great alternative to natural grass for busy homeowners who don’t have the time to maintain a traditional lawn. It’s also much more forgiving than real grass, so you won’t have to worry about brown patches or bald spots. Plus, it’s low-maintenance and looks great all year long!

GAPPSI’S SYNTHETIC TURF OPTIONS

Artificial turf has all the great features of traditional grass but without all the hassle! Busy homeowners no longer have to worry about mowing, weeding, or fertilizing their lawn, because all that is required for artificial turf is the occasional hosing down. Keeping turf clean is a common concern for pet owners, so we designed our turf to be the best for your furry friends!

luxury-backyard-redesign-and-pool-renovation-dix-hills-ny3Gappsi Natural Stone Collection – Fiorito Travertine G035

On the patio and pool coping we used G035 Fiorito Travertine selected from the Gappsi Natural Stone Collection.  The natural beauty of travertine makes it a popular choice for pool deck coping or as a decking material for the entire pool area. A travertine pool deck and travertine pool coping are great options for the following reasons:

  • It offers natural beauty with its earthy colors and interesting textures
  • It creates a non-slip surface
  • It isn’t hot to the touch, making it comfortable for bare feet
  • It’s durable enough to handle typical poolside activities
  • Luxury Backyard Redesign with Travertine

The same quality that makes travertine non-slip and comfortable to walk its porosity is the quality that makes it susceptible to staining. Because travertine is porous, it tends to soak up whatever spills on its surface, which can result in staining. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent stains from occurring:

  • Seal the surface.
  • Wash off spills as soon as they occur.
  • Choose a travertine that has less of a sponge-like texture, as it’s the holes and crevices that provide spots for things to seep into its pores.
  • If you have loose soil nearby that often gets onto the surface, make it a habit to spray dirt off the surface before it begins to stain.

Retaining Walls with Fiorito Travertine G035 – Luxury Backyard Redesign

We built a new retaining wall using cinder blocks, then veneered it with 2 inches of random-length Fiorito Travertine and coping to match the pool.  When it comes to retaining walls, also sometimes referred to as site walls, natural stone embodies the timeless look that most people associate with this type of application. Natural Stone Veneer offers a diverse range of colors, sizes, shapes, and textures to customize a stone veneer retaining wall to the exact aesthetic of the landscape.

luxury-backyard-redesign-and-pool-renovation-dix-hills-ny2Raised Excite Passion Spa

The Excite Passion Spa is a spacious spa that provides room for up to seven people. This top-of-the-line hot tub has a variety of massage experiences that will melt your stress away. The foot dome and volcano jet provide excellent therapy for your tired aching feet.

Gappsi is a dealer for Passion Spas. Passion Spas are sold through select dealers whose experience and commitment to quality and service match their own.

We raised the spa and built a platform to the second-level patio connected by the stairs.  The top patio was also paved with Fiorito Travertine in a French pattern and the walls were also finished with 2-inch veneers and coping was used to match all other wall caps in the backyard.

Fountain Focal Point

Focal points can be restful, dramatic, or even whimsical.  Fountains and other water elements immediately attract attention in the garden, drawing one’s eyes to the movement of water and one’s ears to the soothing sound.

We installed a beautiful fountain with its own pool and landscape area designed by Henri Studio in this luxury backyard redesign.  This company specializes in hand-poured fountains and other expertly crafted products made in America. Their designs range from classic to contemporary, expertly crafted with an eye for detail and a timeless sensibility.

luxury-backyard-redesign-and-pool-renovation-dix-hills-nyTo complete the backyard we installed synthetic turf in the remaining areas of the house.  This is the latest backyard renovation by Gappsi in Dix Hills NY. The Fiorito Travertine has beautiful variations of colors that cannot be reproduced with any other concrete products.  A unique soft blend of beige, golden, grays, maroons, and many other natural patterns that you can only find in the Fiorito travertine is available in the Gappsi Showroom.  Visit our showroom today!

Gunite Pool Repair and Backyard Design in Laurel Hollow NY

Gunite-Pool-Repair-and-Backyard-Design-in-Laurel-Hollow-NYSwimming in a Gunite pool is a great way to cool off, exercise, and have fun during the hot summer months.  Add in an outdoor kitchen, and you won’t have to miss out on the fun that’s happening at your home.  There are many benefits of an outdoor kitchen, and whether it be a simple or more complex outdoor kitchen design, you’ll find a benefit in both.

Gappsi recently designed and built a backyard for a private residence in Laurel Hollow NY. The backyard had an existing Gunite pool that we refinished and restored. We installed new coping, and porcelain tiles in the water line under the coping, then finished the pool with gray marble dusting. The coping consists of bull nose walnut travertine which was also used throughout the backyard for caps on walls and steps.

Gunite Pool Repair and Maintenance

Owning a pool also comes with a certain amount of responsibility. Regular pool maintenance is essential to keep your pool clean, safe, and in good condition.  When you have a gunite pool, repairs are easy to schedule and take less time than you think. We offer our clients:

  • Pool service options to help maintain the pools we build
  • Restoration of older pools fallen into disrepair
  • Concrete pool resurfacing to keep your pool looking great
  • Repairs that bring an older pool up to code
  • Total gunite/shotcrete pool renovation and design for a new look for your backyard

Gunite-Pool-Repair-and-Backyard-Design-in-Laurel-Hollow-NY4What is the purpose of pool coping?

When an in-ground swimming pool is constructed of concrete, it will need coping, which is a cap for the edge of the pool. Coping surrounds the shell of the swimming pool and protects it. This piece keeps any water and debris from going in behind the shell and safeguards it from damage or cracking.

Bullnose Walnut Travertine Pool Coping

Travertine is acknowledged as a wonderful material to use in many architectural and decor projects, both big and small. It has many benefits such as its timeless look, it feels amazing underfoot, is incredibly durable, easy to clean, and more!  If your pool area needs an upgrade, you can’t go past travertine. Using travertine pool coping will make a huge difference to the look and feel of your pool area.

Travertine has a naturally cooler touch than any other paving stone. As a result, travertine pool coping is a more practical choice when you and your family are enjoying the summer months outdoors. Typically, most people want to enjoy their pool and outdoor area more when the weather is warmer.

Imagine the unpleasant experience of trying to climb out of a pool and having to grip your hands onto the piping-hot pool coping tiles. Then quickly make your way on bare feet across what feels like hot coals on your bare feet. Ouch!

These unpleasant experiences will be drastically reduced if you install travertine tiles and pool coping. That’s why it makes sense to choose travertine pool coping over any other stone or paving material.

Gunite-Pool-Repair-and-Backyard-Design-in-Laurel-Hollow-NY1Porcelain Tiles – Slip-Resistant and Safe

Porcelain is a virtually nonporous material that is ideally suited to use on a wall as it keeps water ingress to a minimum. The nonporous nature of porcelain also helps prevent staining meaning the coping will keep its original colour and be low maintenance throughout its lifetime.  Porcelain tiles are an excellent choice for pools they provide a modern and stylish look. Porcelain tiles are watertight and low maintenance, making them a great option for all wet areas around pools, including decks and patios.

Even when exposed to water, porcelain tiles won’t become slippery or especially dangerous to walk on. This makes them invaluable as a pool decking material, especially if you’re concerned about kids running and slipping when enjoying the swimming pool this summer.

Marble Dusting Gunite Pool Repair

Marble Dusting is a smooth plaster finish that is applied to the gunite pool or spa. It’s a mixture of highly refined white cement and crushed marble. This material can be dyed into many colors or purchased in a specific color and aggregate pattern. While white, or anything in the gray spectrum including black is common, exposed aggregate finishes can provide a unique look to your pool. The marble dust is applied up to the water line followed by rows of tile of your choice. The Marble Dust and tile give an attractive finish to your Gunite Pool and Spa Scape.

Gunite pools are known for their durability, longevity, and customizability. However, they also require regular maintenance to keep them looking and functioning at their best. Here are some tips for gunite pool maintenance:

  • Brush the pool walls and floor: Use a pool brush to scrub the walls and floor of your gunite pool regularly. This will help prevent the buildup of algae and other debris.
  • Skim the surface: Use a pool skimmer to remove leaves, insects, and other debris from the surface of the water. Doing this daily will help prevent the debris from sinking to the bottom of the pool.
  • Check the water chemistry: Test the water chemistry of your gunite pool regularly to ensure that the pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels are balanced. Imbalanced water chemistry can lead to algae growth, staining, and other problems.
  • Shock the pool: Shocking the pool involves adding a large dose of chlorine to the water to kill bacteria, algae, and other contaminants. This should be done every week or two, or as needed.

Travertine Patio Pavers & Pool Coping in Nassau & Suffolk Counties

Travertine patio pavers and pool designs are one of the best choices a property owner can make for their backyard. Travertine pavers offer multiple undeniable benefits, making them ideal for backyard patios, fire pits, pool decks, stairs, decorative walls, and more. These natural stone pavers will enhance the beauty of your property’s landscape.

If you’re confused about whether you should choose Travertine pavers for your patios and pool copings or not, read the following benefits of constructing travertine patios and pool copings:

Benefits of Travertine Patios & Pool Copings

Here are some benefits of installing travertine patios and pool copings in Nassau & Suffolk Counties:

Durability

Travertine is an exceptionally durable material that can withstand extreme temperatures. Using this material for pool coping and patios will work in your favor as it can withstand foot traffic. It’s why travertine is often used in areas with heavy foot traffic, such as patios, walkways, and even driveways.

Water Absorption

A pool coping is right on the edge of the pool. It is the first thing your feet touch when you emerge from the swimming pool. Since your pool coping comes into direct contact with water, you need it to be water-absorbent. Concrete pavers do not offer water absorbency, leading them to crack and get damaged over time. On the other hand, travertine is the ideal choice because it can absorb water more efficiently. Hence, using it for your pool coping and patio will help them last a long time.

Eco-Friendliness

Travertine is an eco-friendly stone as it undergoes an environmentally-friendly manufacturing process compared to marble. So, travertine is the way to go if you want to adopt sustainable life choices and home improvement projects for your backyard. Furthermore, this natural stone is exceptionally low-maintenance. It stays intact significantly longer than concrete, making it a cost-effective and sustainable choice.

Long-Lasting & Non-Fading

Since travertine patio pavers are durable, they last a long time. These stone pavers are fade-resistant and keep mold and mildew at bay. They can withstand continued exposure to sunlight without losing color for a long time.

Aesthetic Appeal & Curb Value

Lastly, travertine has an undeniable pull that adds to its aesthetic appeal. It has charming and distinctive limestone swirls that add to its beauty. Travertine tiles have a layered, mottled texture and distinct look. Since travertine patio pavers and pool copings are visually pleasing, they can add to your property’s curb appeal. When you sell your property, prospective buyers might be willing to pay more for the luxurious travertine patio and pool construction.

Cool to the Touch

When you get out of your pool, the last thing you want is to step on a sweltering surface. Travertine pavers in Nassau & Suffolk Counties are also ideal for pool copings. Travertine is cool to the touch, enabling you to walk barefoot on these surfaces.

Slip-Resistant

Adding travertine pool tiles and patio pavers to your yard will enhance your safety by preventing accidental falls. Travertine is a slip-resistant material due to its naturally rough surface. It’s an excellent choice for pool copings and decks since you have to step on them with wet feet, which increases the likelihood of slip and fall accidents.

No Efflorescence

Efflorescence is a powdery white substance commonly observed on concrete surfaces. You need to clean the surface to remove it thoroughly. Travertine pavers do not have efflorescence. It’s a popular choice for people who want a hassle-free patio and backyard that does not require much cleaning. Travertine is easy to clean and retains its look for a long time.

Maintain Your Travertine Patio Pavers & Pool Coping

Even though travertine patio pavers or tiles are water-resistant, they can gradually accumulate stains. Furthermore, since your pool coping is close to loose soil and the water from the pool, it can collect dirt and stubborn stains that settle into its natural pores. You can prevent this by sealing these pavers and copings every three to five years. It will help ensure your patio and coping do not suffer from preventable damage.

Cleaning & Sealing Travertine Patio Pavers

Gappsi also provides its clients with immaculate patio paver cleaning and sealing services. We can clean, seal, and restore your old patios with our state-of-the-art machinery and expertise that spans decades. We steam-clean the surface and then apply top-quality polymeric sand to it. Then, our experts use industry-grade vibrating equipment to settle the sand into the deck.

We also use a mechanical plate compactor and apply a top-tier Polyurethane sealer to seal the patio so that it looks as good as new. Moreover, sealing provides your patio with a polished and chic look that keeps the travertine pavers from looking rough and unappealing. After proper cleaning and sealing, the shine can enhance your property’s curb appeal. It also protects your paved patio from water damage, unsightly cracks, weeds, mildew, algae, and continued sunlight exposure. The sealant also draws out the color of the travertine patio pavers.
