Gunite-Pool-Renovation-And-CopingMarble Pavers Pool Copings In Brookville NY

This is a gunite renovation completed on Long Island in Brookville NY. Gappsi installed new glass tiles in the waterline to freshen up the look of the pool.

Waterfalls, water walls, fountains, jets, bubblers, and spillovers give your pool a focal point, and they create an inspirational setting. A great pool design is often realized by the water within; its appearance, reflections, and how it refracts light and color. By adding a vertical element of moving water, the design can spring to life and almost become a work of art. There are many types of water features to choose from.  Simply put, today’s pool builders create customized features that move water in astonishing ways.

For our customer in Nassau County, we built a wall for the water feature to include sheer descends and on each end, we added spillover bowls.  Along the side of the pool we installed 6 Laminars; 3 on each side.

Sheer-descent waterfalls

Sheer-descent waterfalls, also called sheetfalls, are more suited for modern and geometric pools. The water flows through a thin spillway creating a sleek elegant look as it descends into the water. Sheetfalls are often installed along a raised wall on one side of the pool. The wall can be finished in glass tile for a stunning effect or stacked stone for a more natural look.

Laminar Fountains

Laminar fountains are a type of deck jet that produces a bubble-free arc of water.  This water feature is more common on modern pools and often lit by colorful LED lights.   This water feature look is both stunning and exciting. Designers should pay attention to windy areas because too much wind may ruin the effect on the laminar fountains. Laminar fountains are more expensive than standard deck jets.

Gunite-Pool-Renovation-And-Coping2Gappsi Stone Collection | Marble G043

In general construction terminology, coping refers to masonry material that is used to cap the top of a wall. Most walls have some type of coping, and the kind that adorns those on gunite pools features specific elements.

Coping is the material—usually natural stone or various forms of concrete—mounted over the top of the pool shell’s “bond beam” (the upper portion of the wall). This is where the pool structure meets the surrounding deck

For the coping in the patio, we used marble G043 selected from the Gappsi Stone Collection. The benches and steps in the pool were outlined with glass tiles that were used in the pool for the waterline. For the wall water feature, we used very unique marble slabs to elevate the look and make it a dramatic focal point of the pool and backyard. The patterns in the stones add to the natural beauty of the backyard through the natural patterns in the stones.

Pickleball Courts With Painted Asphalt

Pickleball-Courts-With-Painted-Asphalt2Pickleball Courts With Painted Asphalt or Concrete both provide an acceptable base for the courts. Make sure to review surfacing requirements before having the base installed, as there are recommended specifications for slope, drainage, surface finish, and overall construction.

A better court equals better and safer play. These guidelines are based on collected feedback from fellow members of the pickleball community, and while your situation may differ, we offer these as a starting point for those looking to get the most out of their court and their game.

We can provide you with free estimates for Pickleball court construction & resurfacing throughout Long Island New York. Pickleball has been around for quite a few years but has recently become one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Backyard pickleball courts are a great investment for families and friends to enjoy and have a much smaller footprint than tennis courts. Contact us today and we can perform a site visit to see if a backyard pickleball court can be built within your available space.

Do You Have A Pickleball Court And Need Resurfacing?

The process of surfacing a pickleball court varies, and may include the application of a resurfacing material and/or a cushioned material, in addition to paint for color and texture and line-striping the court boundaries. Some jobs, such as repurposing tennis courts for pickleball, may only require line-striping.

Pickleball court resurfacing should be done every 4 to 8 years, depending on a variety of factors. Overall traffic, or usage, of the sports game courts, is the main factor. However, proper construction, slope, and drainage of the pickleball courts are also very important to the longevity of the slab and pickleball court surfaces. Gappsi is experienced in resurfacing larger Pickleball court facilities with multiple courts. These are ideal for tournaments, leagues, or park systems with a large demand for pickleball. Converting tennis or basketball courts to pickleball courts is also an option if there is more demand for pickleball courts. However, we recommend adding blended lines in another color to existing courts and keeping the existing sports lines. This way you make the most of your real estate and can play all sports in the same area.

Pickleball-Courts-With-Painted-Asphalt-&-Basketball-CourtsSurface Preparation Is Key To Successful Resurfacing

The pavement surface must be cleaned entirely of dust, dirt, and debris. Repair of pavement surface defects, depressions, and cracks should be completed prior to application. All repairs must be flush and smooth to adjoining surfaces for best results. New asphalt must cure 30 days and new concrete must cure 28 days prior to application. It is recommended that any uncoated/bare surface receive one or more coats of TCS Court Resurfacer as required by surface roughness and porosity to provide a smooth, dense underlayment for the application of color coatings. Concrete surfaces should have a light broom finish or a similar roughened texture.

Interested In Cushioned Pickleball Court Surfaces?

We can also install cushioned pickleball court surfaces. You can have a premium, softer playing surface for reducing shock on the joints and body. The system consists of multiple coats of rubber-filled acrylic coatings to produce cushioned padding beneath the colored surfaces.

The acrylic resurfacer is important for courts that intend to add a cushion layer. Without the resurfacing acrylic, the rubber wants to pile up instead of grabbing onto the texture below, and the rubber in the cushion product will fill the voids so the surface won’t feel as cushioned.

Cushioned pickleball courts are created by applying multiple layers of acrylic with small rubber granules using a soft rubber squeegee. To ensure even application, we recommend pouring out the cushion product in relatively small amounts to prevent piles of rubber at the end of the squeegee pull. After spreading the cushion acrylic, Gappsi recommends being gentle while scraping any high spots.

You Do Not Have A PickleBall Court – Plan Your Sports Game Courts

If you are constructing a pickleball court from start to finish, one of the first considerations will be the size and layout of the court.
Pickleball courts measure 44 feet long and 20 feet wide, including the court’s boundary lines. The USAPA Rule Book recommends a minimum total playing surface of 30 by 60 feet, though 34 by 64 feet is preferred. Anytime multiple courts will be nearby, fencing between the courts is important to protect players on other courts.

Just as with other sports game courts, it is ideal to orient the court north-south to limit the sun obstructing players’ vision and the impact of shadows on the court surface.

Coloring The PickleBall Sports Game Courts

The color coating USAPA recommends 100 percent acrylic paint for outdoor courts.  The color is typically applied with a minimum of two coats. Pickleball courts are smaller and are often used for doubles so there’s more wear because the players are always scuffing the same little boxes. It may be worth adding an extra coat to extend the life of the surface.

Although tennis courts tend to be painted blue or green, the USAPA says pickleball courts can be painted any color as long as it contrasts with the lines of the court.

You want to choose a color that contrasts with the color of the pickleballs.  Pickleballs are most often yellow, orange, or lime green. Generally, colors opposite from each other improve contrast. For example, if the balls are yellow, paint the court blue.

Multiple Pickleball Courts North Hills Country Club Nassau County NY

Pickleball-Courts-With-Painted-AsphaltGappsi installed three pickleball sports game courts including a basketball court at North Hills Country Club located in Nassau County NY. This is an addition to their sports complex of tennis courts and golf courts. We utilized an asphalt base, primed, and painted the courts with asphalt paint. The courts were painted blue and color striped with white lines as well as the surrounding area in green. Our team installed 24 x 24 squared Nicolock Pavers for the patio. For the basketball court, we used asphalt primed and painted in black. The keys were colored blue and striped with white. For all surrounding areas, we installed synthetic turf, which will make this enclosed area maintenance-free. The clients are very happy; this is a beautiful installation by Gappsi.

Marble Coping For Vinyl Pools & Spas

Marble-Coping-For Vinyl-Pools-&-Spas2Vinyl Liner Pool Installation

Marble Coping For Vinyl Pools & Spas is a popular type of pool and spa surface. Vinyl Pools are custom-made to fit your specific pool area.  Because they are pre-fabricated and installed relatively quickly, vinyl liner pools are usually less expensive to build and renovate than in-ground gunite pools with cement finishes. A typical vinyl liner replacement may take only a few hours with an experienced crew (not including water fill time), as opposed to days or weeks for a renovation and re-plaster.

Vinyl Liner Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Strengths

Liners are widely available, more affordable to install and replace, and can be installed quickly. They have benefits especially in colder climates, due to the lack of winter issues like calcite crystals. Even if a vinyl liner is damaged and faded during the winter, its surface is still smooth and therefore not abrasive to swimmers’ feet. Another benefit is that patterns and colors do not drive the price of a liner. You can choose from many patterns and colors without large differences in cost, unlike cementitious surfaces which can vary widely in price.

  • Weaknesses

Many would argue the biggest weakness of vinyl liner pools is their lack of customization. Concrete pools can be just about any shape and size, whereas liners are more limited in their shape and size. That all being said, technology continues to advance and we have been seeing more complex liner pools out there. Also, while you can get a plethora of patterns and colors, vinyl liners almost all are similar in feel and appearance…unlike a concrete pool which can have many textures and vibrant colors.

Marble-Coping-For Vinyl-Pools-&-Spas2Marble Pavers

A metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Marble can have beautiful pattern movement within the stone and comes in a wide variety of colors from white to salmon to gray, blue, green, and black.

Regardless of your chosen pool design, deciding which natural stone pavers to use for your pool surrounding will make a very powerful statement about your taste, status, and success. Some factors to consider include appearance, durability, non-slip finish, environmental factors like weather conditions, and finally, sealant.

Marble-Coping-For Vinyl-Pools-&-SpasRaised Spa

A Raised Spa that is elevated above the pool surface. A raised spa can add a dramatic focal point to a poolscape. A raised spa can double as a water feature if it is designed to permit spa water to cascade into the pool. Depending on the type of installation, the spa may or may not share the main pool’s circulating equipment. Raised perimeter-overflow spas overflow on all sides, creating a unique gravity-defying effect.

Outdoor Kitchen Cooking Island with Delta Appliances

Delta Heat products are engineered, designed, and manufactured by industry-leading premium grill and outdoor kitchen equipment experts. Delta Heat products are a true culmination of past experiences, refined and perfected to ensure exceptional design, construction, and performance.

  • How Much Does an Outdoor Kitchen Cost?

An outdoor kitchen will add value to any home, and increase the enjoyment for your family and guests.  The cost will depend on factors, such as appliances chosen, materials, and size. It is important to also consider if the project requires electrical, plumbing, gas, or ventilation.  Outdoor kitchens have risen in popularity partly due to their functionality. It is the perfect additional livable space in the home where you can cook, eat, entertain and relax.

Many times, homeowners hire a contractor to build their outdoor kitchen, because they offered the lowest price. But the lowest price isn’t always the best way to go. It is not necessary to break the bank, but it is important that whomever you choose to work on your home, knows what they are doing, and is willing to stand by their work.

Marble-Coping-For Vinyl-Pools-&-Spas3Gappsi designed and installed this gorgeous backyard setting in Medford Suffolk County NY.  The design of the backyard started with the installation of the 20 x 40 vinyl liner swimming pool with concrete walls. The pool was designed to incorporate a raised spa that spills into the pool. The 8 x 8 raised spa is veneered with Silver Travertine and Coping G038 24×24 marble pavers.

The entire patio was paved with G043 marble pavers selected from the Gappsi stone collection. The Gappsi Stone Collection offers beautiful color variations of beige, browns, and whites. In addition, a sundeck with two fountain bubblers was installed so they can be enjoyed while in the pool.

Outdoor Living By Gappsi

Included in the project surrounding the vinyl-lined pool Gappsi installed a very large patio.  The outdoor living space featured an L-shaped cooking island using all Delta appliances including a gas burner grill, storage cabinets, a gas burner, sink, and a Summit Refrigerator.  The home also featured a raised Azek Deck with steel cable railings to allow NOT BLOCK the view of the backyard pool area when sitting on the deck. The Cento wood-burning firepit was designed to include a stainless steel insert.

Our customers are so happy with the finished design of their new outdoor backyard oasis. This is a great example and design idea brought to you by the design team at Gappsi.

Benefits Of Artificial Putting Greens

When asking what the benefits are of installing synthetic grass in your home or office, a better question to ask might be, what isn’t a benefit of artificial grass?:

  • Pet-friendly – muddy paws, pests, and an unkempt yard are often among the top complaints from pet owners with a natural grass lawn. With artificial grass from Gappsi, you’ll no longer have to worry about Fido becoming infected with ticks or tracking dirt and mud into your clean home.
  • Excellent for water conservation – for homeowners seeking ways to lower their consumption, synthetic grass is an excellent option, as it requires no regular watering. That’s an investment you can feel good about!
  • Free of allergens and pesticides – allergies are a thing of the past with synthetic grass, which leaves no trace of allergens. Additionally, there’s no need to apply harmful chemicals and pesticides, so you can feel safe letting kids and pets play on the lawn.
  • Low-maintenance – gone are the days when you constantly have to re-sod and add fertilizer to your lawn. With artificial grass, all you need is a leaf blower and a garden hose to remove dust and debris.
  • A smart investment – if a high return on investment is a top concern, it doesn’t get much better than artificial grass. Gappsi synthetic grass products possess a 10-15 year life expectancy, with no need to re-seed or water daily, as with traditional grass.

Gappsi custom-built large putting greens for a front yard of a resident in Sands Point NY, located in Nassau County on Long Island. We built a putting green that included two sand bunkers. We used short grass for the center and a taller synthetic turf for the french of the putting green. In addition, Gappsi installed 4 putting holes and 4 flags. The design of the putting green is built in front of the home so as you drive up you can see it.  The natural grass is installed to grow right next to the synthetic turf and blends in seamlessly.

Understanding the Cost of an Artificial Putting Green

When you decide to add a putting green to your backyard, one of the first questions you’ll have is about the cost. The price can vary quite a bit, depending on the path you choose and the features you want. The two main routes are professional installation and a do-it-yourself approach. While a DIY project might seem like a way to save money initially, a professional installation is an investment in quality, performance, and the overall value of your property. A professionally installed green is designed to fit your specific landscape, drain properly, and provide a true-to-life roll for years to come, making it the preferred choice for those serious about their game and their home’s aesthetic.

Professional Installation vs. DIY

Opting for a professional installation ensures you get a tour-quality green that’s built to last. Experts handle everything from site preparation and base construction to turf selection and final shaping, which is crucial for realistic play. According to industry experts, a professionally installed backyard putting green typically costs between $15 and $40 per square foot. This price reflects the expertise, high-quality materials, and specialized equipment required for a flawless finish. While DIY kits are available and cost less upfront, they often result in an uneven surface, poor drainage, and a less durable product. For a seamless integration into your landscape and a truly functional practice area, working with a team of professionals is the best way to achieve your vision.

Factors That Influence the Final Price

Several key factors will determine the final cost of your putting green project. The overall size is the most obvious—a larger green requires more materials and labor. However, the complexity of the design also plays a significant role. If you want custom shaping with challenging undulations, multiple cuts of fringe, or several holes, the price will increase. The condition of your existing yard is another consideration; if the site needs extensive grading or drainage solutions, that will add to the cost. Finally, any extra features you desire, like sand traps, chipping areas, or integrated landscaping, will be factored into the final quote. Understanding these elements helps you see where your investment is going and allows you to prioritize features that matter most to you.

Types of Artificial Putting Greens

Not all artificial putting greens are created equal. The market offers a range of options that cater to different needs, spaces, and budgets. Your choice will depend on whether you’re looking for a permanent, professional-grade practice area or a more temporary, casual solution. The main categories include professionally installed greens that become a permanent fixture of your landscape, portable mats that you can roll out anywhere, and interlocking tiles that offer a bit more customization than a simple mat. Each type has its own set of benefits and limitations, so it’s helpful to consider how you plan to use your green before making a decision.

Professionally Installed Greens

For the ultimate backyard golf experience, nothing beats a professionally installed putting green. These are custom-designed and constructed right in your yard, becoming a permanent and beautiful part of your landscape. At Gappsi, we specialize in creating these high-performance synthetic turf and game courts that offer a true ball roll and realistic feel. Because they are built from the ground up with a proper base, they provide excellent drainage and durability. This is the ideal solution for serious golfers who want to practice their short game on a surface that mimics a real course or for homeowners looking to add a unique, high-end entertainment feature to their outdoor living space.

Portable Putting Mats

Portable putting mats are a great entry-level option for those with limited space or who aren’t ready to commit to a permanent installation. These are typically long, narrow strips of turf that you can roll out in a hallway, basement, or on your patio for some quick practice. They are easy to store and move, making them a convenient choice for indoor or outdoor use. However, they have their limitations. Most mats only allow for straight putts and don’t offer the realistic feel of a professionally installed green. They are a good tool for working on your stroke, but they won’t help you practice reading breaks or chipping from different lies.

Interlocking Turf Tiles

Interlocking turf tiles offer a middle ground between a portable mat and a fully installed green. These modular squares connect to create a putting surface of a custom size and shape, which gives you more flexibility than a standard mat. They are relatively easy to assemble and can be taken apart for storage, making them a good option for indoor game rooms or temporary outdoor setups. While they are more versatile than a roll-out mat, the seams between the tiles can sometimes affect the ball’s roll, and they don’t provide the authentic undulations or fringe areas that make a permanent green so valuable for practice. They are best suited for casual, indoor use.

### Customizing Your Green’s Performance

One of the best parts of designing a personal putting green is that you can tailor its performance to match your skill level and practice goals. You’re not stuck with the conditions of a public course; you can create a surface that challenges you perfectly. This involves understanding a few key concepts that influence how the ball behaves, allowing you to create a green that’s not just beautiful but also highly functional for improving your game. A professional team can help you fine-tune these elements to get the exact experience you’re looking for, whether you want a lightning-fast surface for tournament prep or a more forgiving speed for casual family fun.

Understanding Stimp Rating and Ball Speed

The “Stimp” rating is a term golfers use to describe the speed of a putting green, or how fast the ball rolls across the surface. A higher Stimp number means a faster green. The great thing about artificial turf is that this speed is adjustable. The amount of infill—typically sand—added to the turf is the primary factor that controls the ball’s speed. Adding more infill will slow the green down, while using less will make it faster. This customization allows you to replicate the conditions of your favorite golf course or create a specific speed that helps you work on your putting stroke with consistency, right in your own backyard.

Choosing the Right Turf for Your Putting Green

Not all artificial turf is created equal, especially when it comes to a putting green. The material you choose will directly impact the look, feel, and durability of your practice area. The right turf provides a smooth, consistent roll that mimics the experience of playing on a high-end natural grass course. When you install a putting green, you’ll need to consider the type of fiber used, as well as technical specs like its weight and height. Making an informed decision here ensures your investment not only looks great but also stands up to years of practice and Long Island weather, giving you a reliable surface to perfect your short game whenever you want.

Turf Materials: What’s the Difference?

The type of plastic used to create the turf blades is the foundation of your putting green’s performance. The three main materials you’ll encounter are nylon, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Each has its own set of characteristics that make it suitable for different applications and environments. For example, some materials are better at resisting the sun’s UV rays, making them ideal for outdoor installations, while others offer a specific texture or stiffness. Understanding these differences is the first step in selecting a turf that will meet your expectations for playability and longevity, ensuring your green performs exactly as you envision it.

Nylon Turf

Nylon is an incredibly durable and resilient material for artificial turf. Its fibers have a stiffness that provides a very true and consistent ball roll, which is why it’s a popular choice for high-quality indoor putting greens. It’s also fire-retardant, adding a layer of safety for indoor applications. However, nylon’s biggest drawback is its tendency to fade over time with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. For this reason, it’s generally recommended for indoor practice areas or covered outdoor spaces where it won’t be subjected to the sun’s harsh UV rays day after day.

Polyethylene and Polypropylene Turf

For outdoor putting greens, polyethylene and polypropylene are the go-to materials. Both are highly resistant to fading from sun exposure, so your green will maintain its vibrant color for years. Polyethylene is known for being the softest of the turf materials, giving it a more realistic feel that many golfers prefer. It’s also often made from recycled materials, making it an eco-friendly choice. Polypropylene is a bit stiffer and is also a very popular option for putting greens. Often, you’ll find turf that blends these materials to combine their benefits for the perfect balance of softness, resilience, and realistic play.

Technical Specifications to Look For

Beyond the type of material, a few technical specifications on the product sheet will tell you a lot about the turf’s quality and how it will perform. These details might seem minor, but they make a huge difference in the durability and playability of your putting green. Paying attention to metrics like face weight and pile height will help you compare different turf products effectively. This ensures you select a high-quality surface that can withstand frequent use and provide the consistent performance you need to seriously work on your short game.

Face Weight

Face weight refers to the weight of the turf fibers in one square yard, not including the backing. Think of it like thread count in sheets—a higher face weight means more material, which translates to a denser and more durable turf. For a quality putting green that will last, you should look for a face weight between 40 and 60 ounces. This density provides a lush appearance and ensures the surface can handle regular foot traffic and practice sessions without wearing down quickly, giving you a long-lasting and reliable green.

Pile Height

Pile height is simply the length of the turf blades, measured from the backing to the tip. For a putting green, you want a low pile height to ensure the ball rolls smoothly and consistently without any wobble. The ideal range is typically between 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch. This shorter height mimics the tightly mown grass of a real golf green and is crucial for accurate practice. A pile height that’s too long will cause the ball to sink and slow down unpredictably, defeating the purpose of a practice green.

What to Consider Before Installing

Before you break ground, there are a few practical considerations to think about. A backyard putting green is a fantastic addition to your home, but it’s an investment of both money and space. Thinking through the initial cost and understanding some of the environmental factors, like how the sun will affect the surface, will help you plan your project effectively. At Gappsi, we guide homeowners through these questions every day, ensuring the final result is a perfect fit for their property and lifestyle. A little bit of planning upfront ensures there are no surprises and that you’ll be happy with your new green for years to come.

Initial Investment

A professionally installed putting green is a significant home improvement project, and the cost reflects the quality of the materials and the expertise of the installation. On average, you can expect the price to range from $15 to $40 per square foot. This cost covers the high-quality turf, base preparation, infill, and labor required to create a perfectly smooth and functional surface. While it’s a notable investment, a backyard green adds value to your home and provides countless hours of enjoyment and practice. It’s a feature that enhances your lifestyle, especially for an avid golfer or a family that loves outdoor activities.

Surface Temperature in Direct Sunlight

One common question about artificial turf is whether it gets hot in the sun. The answer is yes, like many surfaces, it can absorb heat on a hot, sunny day. However, the benefits of having a maintenance-free, perfectly playable green year-round often outweigh this concern for most homeowners. The surface cools down quickly once it’s in the shade, and a light spray with a hose can also bring the temperature down if needed. Furthermore, the type of infill used can also influence surface temperature, so it’s a factor to discuss with your installation professional during the design phase.

Is a putting green only for serious golfers? Not at all! While it’s an amazing tool for improving your short game, a backyard putting green is really a unique entertainment feature for everyone. It becomes a natural gathering spot during parties and barbecues, offering a fun activity for guests of all ages, whether they’ve ever held a club or not. Think of it as a sophisticated and interactive addition to your outdoor living space that your family and friends will love.

How much maintenance does an artificial putting green actually need? This is one of the best parts—the upkeep is incredibly minimal. Forget about mowing, watering, or fertilizing. Your main tasks will be using a leaf blower to clear off any leaves or debris and occasionally rinsing the surface with a hose to wash away dust. It’s a huge time-saver compared to maintaining a natural lawn, giving you more time to actually enjoy your yard.

Can a putting green be designed to fit my specific yard and skill level? Absolutely. A custom putting green is designed to work with your landscape, not against it. Whether you have a large, open space or a smaller, more unique area, the green can be shaped to fit perfectly. We can also tailor the difficulty by incorporating different slopes, undulations, and even features like sand traps or chipping areas to match your practice goals and create the exact experience you’re looking for.

How long can I expect my new putting green to last? A professionally installed putting green is a long-term investment in your home. With the high-quality, durable materials we use, you can expect your green to last for 10 to 15 years. It’s built to withstand consistent use and the changing Long Island seasons, so it will remain a beautiful and functional feature of your home for many years.

Will the turf get too hot for my kids and pets to use in the summer? It’s true that artificial turf, like any surface, can get warm in direct sunlight on a hot day. However, it’s a manageable issue. The surface cools down quickly in the shade, and a light spray from a garden hose can bring the temperature down instantly if needed. The materials are completely safe for both children and pets to play on.

Key Takeaways

  • Customize your green for function and fun: A personal putting green is more than just turf; it’s a design feature. You can tailor everything from the ball speed to the addition of bunkers and chipping areas to create a space that’s perfect for both serious practice and casual entertaining.
  • Prioritize the right turf specifications: For a green that performs like the real thing, focus on the technical details. Choose a turf with a low pile height (between 1/2 and 3/4 inch) for a smooth roll and a high face weight (40-60 oz) for durability that lasts season after season.
  • Opt for professional installation to protect your investment: The foundation of a great putting green is what’s underneath. A professional installation ensures proper site preparation and drainage, which is essential for a flawless, true-rolling surface that adds lasting value to your home.

What Makes Nicolock Pavers a Great Choice?

When you’re planning a new patio, walkway, or pool surround, the materials you choose are just as important as the design. Nicolock has become a go-to choice for many Long Island homeowners, and for good reason. They combine aesthetic appeal with serious performance, ensuring your investment looks fantastic for years to come. Their commitment to quality starts from the inside out, using a proprietary manufacturing process that sets them apart from the competition. This focus on innovation means you get a product that not only enhances your home’s curb appeal but also stands up to the demanding Northeast weather, from scorching summer sun to freezing winter nights. It’s this reliability that makes them a staple in our masonry and hardscape projects across Suffolk and Nassau counties.

Strength and Durability

One of the biggest concerns for any outdoor installation is how long it will last. Nicolock addresses this head-on by engineering pavers that are built for a lifetime. They are so confident in their product’s resilience that they offer a limited lifetime warranty for residential use, covering your pavers for as long as you own your home. This durability is crucial for high-traffic areas like driveways and patios. The pavers are designed to resist cracking, splitting, and fading, which means less worry about maintenance and more time enjoying your beautiful outdoor space. This long-term performance ensures that your investment not only adds immediate value but continues to pay off season after season.

Paver-Shield™ Technology

What’s the secret to Nicolock’s vibrant, long-lasting color? It’s their signature Paver-Shield™ technology. Unlike pavers where color is only applied to the surface, Nicolock infuses a concentrated layer of iron oxide pigment, ultra-fine sand, and Portland cement throughout the top of each paver. This process creates a tight, smooth surface with deep, rich color that won’t fade away. It also provides superior protection against the elements, ensuring your patio looks just as brilliant in ten years as it did on day one. This technology is a key reason why Nicolock pavers maintain their “smooth as silk” appearance and structural integrity over time.

A Company with Experience

Trust is a major factor when selecting building materials, and Nicolock has earned it. As a 100% U.S.-owned and operated company, they have decades of experience specializing in hardscaping products. Their long-standing reputation is built on a foundation of quality manufacturing and consistent innovation. For us at Gappsi, working with experienced and reliable manufacturers like Nicolock is essential. It allows us to confidently design and build stunning swimming pool patios and outdoor living areas, knowing the materials we use are backed by a history of excellence and a commitment to American manufacturing.

Helpful Planning Tools

Getting started on a hardscaping project can feel overwhelming, but Nicolock provides tools to make the planning process easier. Their website features helpful resources, including a Paver Calculator that allows you to estimate the amount of material you’ll need for your project. This is a great first step for budgeting and visualizing the scope of your new patio or walkway. While these tools are fantastic for initial planning, bringing your vision to life requires professional expertise. Our design team at Gappsi can take your ideas and create a detailed plan that considers drainage, layout, and the perfect paver combination for your home.

They also produce permeable pavers, an eco-friendly option that allows rainwater to pass through the surface and seep into the ground naturally. This can help manage stormwater runoff, a growing concern for many homeowners. Having these specialized options allows us to provide tailored solutions that meet both the functional and aesthetic needs of your property.

Nicolock vs. Other Paver Brands

When researching pavers, you’ll quickly find there are several major brands to choose from, each with its own set of features and benefits. Understanding the key differences can help you make a more informed decision for your home. While many companies produce high-quality pavers, the manufacturing process and proprietary technologies are often what set them apart. Factors like color-fading technology, surface texture, and overall durability can vary significantly from one brand to another. We often get questions about how Nicolock stacks up against other popular choices on the market, particularly Cambridge pavers, as both are frequently used in Long Island projects.

Nicolock vs. Cambridge Pavers

Both Nicolock and Cambridge are respected manufacturers, but their core technologies differ. The primary distinction lies in their approach to color and durability. As we’ve discussed, Nicolock uses its Paver-Shield™ technology, which creates a smooth, dense surface with color integrated throughout the top layer. This results in a paver that is exceptionally strong, vibrant, and resistant to fading. Cambridge, on the other hand, utilizes its ArmorTec technology, which also aims for a durable, colorfast paver. While both are excellent products, many find that the Paver-Shield™ process gives Nicolock pavers a smoother finish and a richer, more consistent color profile that truly lasts a lifetime.

Nicolock-Pavers-For-Patios-And-Pools2Disadvantages of Paving Stones

  • Moss will grow in between pavers: Just like weeds, moss growth in between pavers is a common problem. Moss likes to grow in wet, shady areas. If moss gets out of hand it can be a big pain.  It is important to note that it is not only unsightly, but it can be very slippery when wet.
  • Weeds will grow in between pavers: In between each of the pavers is a layer of sand that acts as a grout line. Over time, sand washes out and requires to be refilled periodically to maintain proper spacing. Homeowners can either do this on their own or hire a contractor to do it for them.  It is important to note that if restoring the sand is neglected, chances increase that weeds will grow in between each paver.
  • Pavers will wobble: Pavers always need a strong base, and many contractors who do not specialize in installing pavers fail to provide the strong base pavers need. Some contractors lay a scarce amount of sand under the pavers which can cause the pavers to sink.

Cleaning-and-Sealing-Paving-Stones1Long Island NY Stone Patios Driveways Cleaning Sealing Experts!

We are often asked, “Do I need to seal my pavers?” The short answer is YES!!! Cleaning and Sealing is an important maintenance tools to keep paver patios, walkways, driveways, and pool decks looking as beautiful as the day they were installed.

However, “too much of a good thing” can come into play.  You should be wary of over-applying paver sealer by reapplying too often, which could create a haze. Below are a few of the most popular questions we have received.  To read the entire list of questions check out the Cleaning and Sealing page:

Is it necessary to Seal Pavers?

Gappsi recommends sealing concrete pavers and cleaning regularly. Although paving stones use the highest quality cement, cement is a corrosive material.  Cement wears under natural elements such as rain and snow. The sun, rain, and cold can easily wear the surface of pavers, and a good sealing job with the right sealing product, applied by a professional technician of sealing, will create a layer of protection over the paving stones making them water-repellent and weatherproof. This will protect the concrete surface from corrosion. A good sealer penetrates the paver surface and stays there for many years, even when the look of the sealer goes away the color and texture of the pavers will stay new.

Do you need to pressure wash pavers before sealing them?

Gappsi recommends pressure washing pavers before sealing the surface and the surface should be free of debris. It is very important the surface is cleaned first.  Once the sealant is on the pavers any stains or materials that get trapped under the sealer will not be able to be cleaned after it’s sealed.

Pressure washing pavers is just as important as sealing them. Using the wrong pressure washing tools could also hurt the pavers. A pressure washer with the wrong nozzle could mark or wear the pavers. The best-recommended tool is a high-volume, low-pressure, hot water-pressure washer. The hot water cleans the pavers and prepares the surface for the best result sealing job.

Understanding the Cost of Nicolock Pavers

When you’re planning a new patio or walkway, one of the first questions that comes to mind is, “How much will this cost?” Budgeting is a crucial part of any home improvement project, and understanding the factors that influence the price of Nicolock pavers can help you plan effectively. The total cost isn’t just about the pavers themselves; it includes the materials needed for a solid foundation, the labor involved in a professional installation, and the specific design you choose. Think of it as an investment in your home’s functionality and curb appeal—one that pays off in both enjoyment and increased property value for years to come.

Material and Installation Costs

Let’s break down the numbers. The Nicolock pavers themselves typically cost between $2 and $4 per square foot on average, though some premium styles can vary. However, the material is just one piece of the puzzle. The complete installation, which includes the base materials, labor, and equipment, is where the bulk of the investment lies. When you factor in professional installation, the total cost generally ranges from $10 to $30 per square foot. This ensures a durable, long-lasting surface that won’t shift or sink over time. A proper masonry installation is key to avoiding issues like wobbling pavers down the road.

Example Project Cost: A Paver Patio

To make this more concrete, let’s imagine you’re building a standard 20-foot by 20-foot patio, which is 400 square feet. Based on average installation costs, you can expect this project to fall somewhere between $3,800 and $6,800. While the final price depends on the specific paver style and complexity of the design, this range gives you a solid starting point for your budget. Investing in a professionally installed paver patio not only creates a beautiful outdoor living area for your family to enjoy but also significantly enhances the overall value and appeal of your Long Island home.

Hiring the Right Contractor for Paver Installation

Remember how we talked about wobbly pavers? That’s almost always a sign of a poor installation job. Choosing the right contractor is just as important as picking the perfect paver. You want a team that specializes in hardscaping and has a proven track record. When vetting potential installers, look through their portfolio of completed projects to get a real sense of their craftsmanship. A company with decades of experience in masonry and paver installation will know exactly how to prepare the base to prevent sinking and shifting, ensuring your new patio or driveway is built to last.

Once you have a shortlist, do your homework by checking online reviews and asking for references. During your consultation, don’t be shy about asking questions about their process, the project timeline, and who will be on-site. A reputable contractor will be happy to walk you through every step and provide clear answers. This initial communication is a great indicator of the service you can expect. Finding a team that also handles long-term maintenance, like professional paver restoration and sealing, is a huge plus, as it shows they are committed to the longevity of your investment.

Nicolock’s Lifetime Warranty

When you invest in your home, you want that investment to last. Nicolock stands behind its products with a commitment that gives homeowners peace of mind. They offer a limited lifetime warranty on their pavers, which means the product is covered for as long as you own your home. This isn’t just a marketing promise; it’s a testament to the quality and durability built into every stone. This warranty reflects the company’s confidence that their pavers, when installed correctly, will withstand the test of time and the varied Long Island weather, from hot summers to freezing winters. It ensures that the vibrant color and structural integrity you fall in love with will remain a feature of your home for years to come. Choosing a product with such a strong guarantee makes the decision to upgrade your outdoor space feel secure and sensible.

Of course, a product is only as good as its installation. To ensure your project qualifies for this extensive warranty and performs beautifully, it’s crucial to have it installed by experienced professionals. At Gappsi, our masonry and construction teams are experts in laying Nicolock pavers according to the manufacturer’s precise specifications. We build the proper foundation and ensure every detail is handled correctly, so your new patio, walkway, or driveway not only looks stunning but is also built to endure. A professional installation is the key to unlocking the full potential and longevity of your Nicolock pavers, protecting your investment from day one.

Transferable Warranty for Homeowners

One of the most significant advantages of Nicolock’s warranty is that it’s transferable to the next homeowner. This is a powerful feature that adds tangible value to your property. When it comes time to sell, you can present the transferable warranty as a major selling point. Potential buyers will see the paver installation not as a potential future expense, but as a durable, protected feature of the home. This added assurance can make your home more attractive on the market and reinforces the idea that you invested in high-quality materials. It’s a benefit that extends beyond your own enjoyment, making your hardscaping project a smart financial decision for the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Nicolock pavers different from other brands I see on Long Island? The biggest difference is how they handle color. Nicolock uses a special process called Paver-Shield™ technology, which mixes concentrated color and cement deep into the top portion of each paver. This creates a dense, smooth surface with rich color that is part of the stone itself, so it won’t fade over time. This commitment to a durable, vibrant surface is what sets them apart.

I’ve seen paver patios get weedy and uneven. How do I prevent that from happening to mine? This problem almost always comes down to the installation, not the pavers themselves. Weeds and wobbly pavers are signs of a weak or improperly prepared base. A professional installation focuses heavily on creating a solid foundation that won’t sink or shift. When the base is done right, there’s very little room for weeds to take hold, and your patio will remain stable and level for years.

Is sealing my new paver patio really necessary? Yes, we highly recommend it. Think of sealer as a protective layer for your investment. It helps shield the pavers from rain, sun, and stains, making them easier to clean and helping to preserve their original color and texture. While Nicolock pavers are incredibly durable on their own, sealing is a straightforward maintenance step that ensures they look their best for as long as possible.

What should I realistically expect to budget for a new paver patio? The final cost depends on the size and complexity of your project, but a good general range for a professionally installed patio is between $10 and $30 per square foot. This price includes not just the pavers, but also the crucial base materials, labor, and equipment needed for a proper installation. Investing in a quality installation is what prevents the common issues and protects the longevity of your patio.

How does Nicolock’s lifetime warranty actually work? Nicolock is so confident in their product’s durability that they cover it with a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own your home. This protects against any structural issues with the pavers themselves. A great feature is that the warranty is transferable one time to the next owner, which can be a real asset if you decide to sell your home in the future.

Key Takeaways

  • Choose Pavers with Through-Body Color: Nicolock’s Paver-Shield™ technology infuses color deep into the stone, not just on the surface. This is the secret to a patio that resists fading and maintains its rich appearance for years.
  • A Great Paver Needs a Great Installer: The long-term stability of your patio depends entirely on the foundation beneath it. Hiring a specialized contractor is the only way to prevent common issues like sinking, shifting, and wobbling pavers.
  • Protect Your Patio with Regular Sealing: Think of sealing as essential maintenance, not an optional extra. A professional cleaning and sealing service protects your pavers from weathering, keeps them looking new, and is necessary to uphold the product’s lifetime warranty.
