Find Out More About Beautiful Long Island Poolscapes

A poolscape is simply the landscape surrounding any pool, along with the shape and the type of pool itself. There are a plethora of options when it comes to the general design and within each theme even more options for the type of greenery and any other decorative items you may want. You can choose to play a hand in the design of the poolscape yourself, higher a professional designer, or rely on the expertise of a contractor. No matter how you choose to design your pool, it is essential you hire a professional to put it all together.
Some general poolscape categories
As mentioned the options are endless. Here are just a few of the popular styles:
• Asian Landscapes
• Bank Checks – This will incorporate a retaining wall
• English Landscape
• Tropical
• Hawaiian
• Fireplace
• Outdoor kitchen
• Garden
• Waterfalls
• Much more
People use combinations of these ideas and all kinds of different greenery.
What’s right for me?
The right type of poolscape all depends on personal preference; however there are some things to keep in mind. First of course is the size of your yard. This in itself may limit your options. Next is the type of ground. This only matters in so much as the amount of work it will take to create the look you want, but for instance areas with hard ground or desert areas may be more expensive when it comes to installing a lot of greenery or a tropical setting. Decide what type of features you want. There are many options like waterfalls, ponds, fountains and more. The actual shape of the pool is a consideration as well. Some settings may look better with a rectangular design, others will compliment curved pools.
Before choosing the style you like you will want to look at plenty of examples, catalogues and websites. Remember, once construction is underway it might be difficult to change your mind.
How much will it cost?
Price really will vary, but you will find that most contractors in any area are competitively priced. Look for a medium and from that list hire the company you feel does the best job from their reviews and samples they provide. Be careful of outliers – those contractors that are a lot more expensive, or way cheaper. This could be a sign something is not completely as it seems. Price will range from the thousands all the way up to the tens of thousands. Hotels and other businesses sometimes spend hundreds of thousands. Whatever you spend, you can be sure that a great design will improve the value of your home and will improve the quality of your time spent in the backyard.
Why do I need a contractor?
A contractor is essential for a job this large. Doing this job the right way will ensure a backyard you can be proud of. Many of the features may be difficult for one not familiar and experienced with creating poolscapes, meaning not hiring a professional can take much longer and can even become more expensive in wasted time and resources.

Automated Pool Safety Covers – How to Keep Your Pool Safe Year Round

Having a pool is a great for those hot summer months, family get-togethers and other occasions, but keeping it clean and safe when not in use can be a real hassle. That is unless you have an automated pool safety cover installed. An automated pool safety cover is simply a pool cover which stretches over your pull automatically with a push of a button. There is more to it than that though. This type of pool cover has a list of great benefits, some you may not have considered, and this type of pool cover is much safer than other more traditional pool covers. We will go over some of the options and some of the details about different types of automated pool safety covers.
Different types of pool covers
Traditionally a pool cover was simply a tarp pool owners placed over the pool in the winter, sometimes held in place with hooks, more often just with rocks or other heavy objects… sometimes even just left floating on the surface of the pool.
Really any piece of plastic can work as a pool cover, but it is not the most efficient way to cover your pool. Modern pool covers have a lot more to offer and are much safer.
The material can be a bubble or a solar cover, this offers the best insulation. Insulated vinyl offers great installation as well and for warmer areas or if you do not use the pool at all in the winter, a regular sturdy vinyl cover will work.
The way the tarp is placed over the pool can also vary. Today automated pool covers ensure all of the water is actually covered. These systems operate via remote and “roll” the pool cover over the entire body of water. A mechanism on each side of the pool holds the tarp tight so that none of the water is exposed. This has the additional benefit of being a whole lot safer.
Do pool covers keep the pool cleaner?
One of the main expenses of having a pool is keep it clean. Along with the chemical balance, objects like dust, grass and leaves that find there way into your pool can make it harder to keep clean. During the winter months when most do not pay a lot of attention to their pool this problem can become worse, sometimes pool owners may even need to drain then refill their pool should the problem get too bad. Of course covering you pool can go a long way toward avoiding these problems. Automated pool covers work best because they cover the entire pool, while most older covers only go over a portion, leaving plenty of room for debris.
Safety issues pertaining to pool covers
One of the main factors to consider is the safety of your pool, especially if you have small children or pets. Pool covers which are not held tightly on each side and which cannot support weight are actually more dangerous than an uncovered pool. If a person or pet falls in they can become tangled, making it more difficult for even strong swimmers to get out.
Automated tarps are held firmly in place, and a quality cover will be able to hold more than enough weight to ensure should someone accidentally fall in, they will have no problem getting back out.

Why Choose a Gunite Swimming Pool for your Long Island Backyard?

A gunite pool is another name for a concrete pool, the walls, bottom and steps are made of concrete poured between steel beams for a watertight seal and one that will not corrode over time. Concrete also provides, traditionally, more options as far as design, lending itself more readily various designs, curved walls, custom stairs and other features and much more. It is named gunite because the walls are sprayed with a mixture of sand and concrete for a very specific look and feel, the mixture being called gunite of course. This type of pool has many advantages and disadvantages and there is much to consider prior to choosing the type of pool you would like installed in your backyard.
Pros of a Gunite Pool
Since the invention of the backyard pool, concrete has been the most popular choice, and it still has many advantages and is often recommended by designers, contractors and home improvement professionals.
This type of pool almost universally lasts longer and is easier to maintain. This in turn will add value to your home over the long-term while saving you costs in the meantime.
The next, and perhaps given the various advances in the different types of pools available, the more important advantage is the amount of customization possible and the ease of customization. Fiberglass pools for example are pre-manufactured and must be “dropped into” the area provided, limiting your options, especially if it turns out you cannot dig where you though… which happens. Gunite on the other hand is very flexible and the design can be changed at nearly any time during construction, and can be designed from the beginning nearly however you would like.
Finally, gunite pools are simply sturdier. They last longer, keep their shape longer; they are in fact nearly indestructible. There is a very good possibility your gunite pool will last longer than your pool as long as it is not filled in… even then the outline will remain unless you decide to dig it up for some reason… which is not recommended.
