Walnut Travertine Backyard Patio Complete Design By Gappsi

Gappsi used walnut travertine in this residence located on Long Island in Sands Point NY. We used this color travertine throughout the entrance way starting with the front entrance stairway. We continued with the copings, treads, pavers for the platforms, and veneers for the rises were all in walnut travertine.

Gappsi extended the columns for the light features to illuminate the backyard. On the home, the house veneers were all split-face travertine veneers. The entrance to the backyard was also all in a travertine walnut color combination of beige browns and whites.

The pavilion was custom built, finished with wood planks installed on the ceiling, and the outdoor kitchen was built in u shape with DCS appliances. The pool area is very large and includes a fireplace.

Gappsi built the gunite pool that is equipped with an automatic swimming pool cover. The landscape included a natural stone waterfall with sitting walls. This project was built by Gappsi approximately 12 years ago. Still, in great shape, we recently cleaned and sealed all the travertine with a natural clear sealer that does not enhance or change the color of the stones but prevents them from absorbing water. This is the latest Gappsi Project in Sands Point NY.

TYPES OF PAVER BASE MATERIALS

Your base will determine whether your pavers remain smooth and level or grow uneven over time. Qualities of a suitable base material include:

Here are some things to know about the most common paver bases and their properties.

SAND BASE: Sand paver bases are one of the most popular options due to sand’s spreadability. However, sand is not an ideal base on its own. Over time, sand shifts and can create an uneven foundation. If your foundation is anything but level, your pavers will show it. Sand is often used in conjunction with crushed stone for increased durability. Because sand comes in different fineness and coarseness, all types may not be suited for a paver base. Concrete sand, also known as bedding sand, is coarse and doesn’t trap excess moisture beneath the paver surface. This allows pavers to drain after heavy rain in addition they maintain their structural integrity.

STONE DUST: Stone dust is a powdery mixture of finely ground stones that has a sand-like texture. Though it can be a helpful base ingredient when mixed with other materials, most professionals recommend that you never use stone dust on its own as a base. Stone dust and finely ground stone or “screening” fall into a material category that has excessive amounts of dust particles. RCA is made by breaking down existing concrete into gravel. Though RCA functions similarly to crushed stone in a paver base, it is impossible to know the different rock mixtures it contains. This unpredictability may make RCA a less reliable base choice when compared to crushed stone.

Gunite Pool Renovation In Glen Head Long Island NY

Gappsi completed a Gunite Pool Renovation in Glen Head NY. We renovated the pool and patio together. Gappsi’s team removed an Old Westchester coping and a random bluestone patio. We reinstalled G045 Blue Limestone selected from the Gappsi Natural Stone Collection.

The pool was completely remodeled with all new plumbing, skimmers, and jets. The tiles selected for the pool were porcelain 6-inch tiles installed in the water line in the pool. The customer chose G045 for the pool coping. We installed it 2 inches thick throughout the pool and the spa area. The gunite pool coping has a rock face finish with tumbled with ceramic chips. This makes it very smooth to the touch. For the pool and the spa finish, we used onyx diamond bright, which is a very dark, almost black color plastic.

For the patio area, we installed G045 limestone which has variations of blue grays in a large format pattern selected from the Gappsi Stone Collection. The color of the pool gives the entire backyard a natural pond effect. In addition, the landscaping created offered a natural look and feel.
