The grotto is also used for the kids to dive into the deep end of the pool. It has also a slide custom build into the landscaping. for the side we have self contained waterfall pond less with natural rocks. We have steps to go up to the top of the grotto for the kids to jump out of. This patio area next to the waterfall is for a daybed. The coping was installed with tumbled silver travertine and all the veneers on the walls are split face silver travertine. The spa is elevated out of the pool to create a spill over or just used as a spa to get the water to be 104 degrees. We built a custom pavilion with an outdoor kitchen equipped with all brand new delta appliances. The TV Will go on the wall. This is the kitchen, we also built a fire pit area with a breeo smokeless stainless steel fire pit. Great technology and it will never rust. These are precast steps to go up to the platform of the slide and jumping platform over the top of the grotto. Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a project of this scale typically take from start to finish? A complete backyard transformation involves several phases, from design and permits to excavation and finishing touches. The exact timeline can vary depending on the complexity of the project and the specific features you choose. We work closely with you to establish a clear and realistic schedule from the very beginning so you always know what to expect.
Why did you choose gunite for this pool, and what are its advantages? We often recommend gunite for custom pools because it offers incredible design flexibility. Since gunite is applied on-site, we can create virtually any shape, size, or depth you can imagine, easily incorporating features like built-in benches or tanning ledges. It’s also exceptionally durable, resulting in a solid, long-lasting structure.
How do you make sure separate features like the pool, waterfall, and pavilion all look like they belong together? This is where our integrated design and construction process makes all the difference. Our teams—from pool specialists to masons and landscape architects—collaborate from day one. This unified approach ensures every single element, from the patio stone to the pavilion’s placement, works together to create a cohesive and beautifully designed outdoor living space.
What is the maintenance like for a pool with a Diamond Brite finish? A Diamond Brite finish is a fantastic choice because it’s not only beautiful but also very durable and stain-resistant. Its smooth surface naturally resists algae growth, which simplifies routine cleaning. While you’ll still need to perform regular chemical balancing and brushing, the resilient finish helps keep the pool looking pristine with standard care.
Do I have to commit to a full backyard renovation, or can Gappsi handle smaller individual projects? While we love bringing large-scale transformations to life, we absolutely handle individual projects. Whether you’re looking to install a new paver patio, build a pergola, or add an outdoor kitchen to your existing space, we bring the same level of dedication and craftsmanship to every job, no matter the size.
Key Takeaways
- Integrate Your Entertainment and Relaxation Zones: A pool is a great start, but a truly complete backyard combines different areas. Consider how a custom pavilion, an outdoor kitchen, and dedicated lounging spaces can work together to create a seamless outdoor living experience.
- Focus on High-Impact Custom Details: Small choices make a big difference in the final look and feel. Details like a specific pool finish or a custom-built pavilion are what transform a standard project into a personalized retreat that reflects your style.
- Balance Fun with Functionality: The best backyard designs serve everyone in the family. By planning for both active fun, like a pool slide, and practical entertaining, like a well-equipped outdoor kitchen, you create a versatile space that works for any occasion.

Retaining wall design and installation in Smithtown Pines NY 11787
This Retaining wall system was built by Gappsi in Smithtown, NY. The front yard of this residence in Smithtown was overgrown with trees and was too steep for the homeowners to park on the existing driveway. Gappsi as a Retaining walls contractor supplier, redesigned the front yard in different levels, building a circular driveway, creating a flat area for cars to be parked on, and also eliminating the danger of backing out into the street while getting out of the driveway on their steep hill. If you are familiar with the Smithtown/Pines area, then you will know of the challenge of dealing with sloped properties. Gappsi masonry designers know the neighborhood and understand how to work in these challenging situations.
Gappsi the Retaining walls contractor supplier, created a masterpiece of front yard. not only beautiful, but totally functional for these homeowners to live comfortably and also gain value in their home after this big investment in retaining walls and landscaping. Here, we started with the removal of old concrete retaining walls, big trees, and stumps. The wall system used is a Nicolock five inch high colonial wall system with colonial caps used as the last row on each complete wall. The color is Adobe Blend: a combination of brown and gray blend. It is an earth tone mix that blends in with the brick veneers on the house and also makes it soft and appealing to the eye. The first wall was built 10 ft away from the street curb, and bluestone gravel was used to pave the gap between street Belgium block curb and the Nicolock retaining wall. The first wall shows to be one ft high on one side, and 36 inches on the opposite side. This is because it compensates for the slope that is in the street in comparison to the property. A planting bed was then created and a second 36 inch high wall across the front yard was built to retain the driveway going across one side to the other side. This created the circular driveway and flat parking area. A third retaining wall was constructed to retain the steps that lead to the front door porch and entrance. The driveway was paved with asphalt and bordered with Nicolock Adobe Blend Stoneridge pavers to retain the edge of the asphalt driveway and also to make a skirt paved area on each of the driveway entrances. if you in the market for a Landscape and retaining wall project, please contact gappsi the Retaining walls contractor supplier.
